Cheney to Attend Karzai's Inauguration
WASHINGTON -- Vice President Dick Cheney will travel to Afghanistan to attend the inauguration Tuesday of Hamid Karzai as Afghanistan's first directly elected president.

Cheney will also meet with Karzai and other government officials, and will thank U.S. and other troops serving there, the White House announced on Tuesday. The vice president will be acccompanied by his wife, Lynne Cheney.

Thousands of U.S. soldiers are preparing an operation against Taliban insurgents to pre-empt an expected spring offensive which could upset plans for Afghan parliamentary elections.

10. Karzai's oil connection

http://www.counterpunch.org/tomenron.html

As America's New War now begins focusing on other "rogue nations," UNOCAL's stars have magically aligned. About two months after the Houston parties, UNOCAL executive John Maresca addressed the House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific and urged support for establishment of an investor-friendly climate in Afghanistan, "... we have made it clear that construction of our proposed pipeline cannot begin until a recognized government is in place that has the confidence of governments, lenders and our company." Meaning that UNOCAL's ability to construct the Afghan pipeline was a cause worthy of U.S. taxpayer dollars.

Maresca's prayers have been answered with the Taliban's replacement. As reported in Le Monde, the new Afghan government's head, Hamid Karzai, formerly served as a UNOCAL consultant. Only nine days after Karzai's ascension, President Bush nominated another UNOCAL consultant and former Taliban defender, Zalmay Khalilzad, as his special envoy to Afghanistan

14. It was alot like ours...an oilman won via fixed election
except their votes were alot more secure than ours----ours were in e-voting machines and their's were transported via donkies thru the deserted Afghan mountain side from the more rural Afghan towns to a place where the votes were fixed, um, I mean "counted"...wonder how many donkies had their bags "lost" on the way to being counted?

Karzai's Houston oil connection goes way back..pre-Afghan invasion:
