U.S. Attorney Strom Thurmond Jr. Resigns
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- U.S. Attorney Strom Thurmond Jr., the state's top federal prosecutor for three years, said he will resign and return to private practice.

Thurmond, the son of late Sen. Strom Thurmond, said that he would join the firm of Smith, Massey and Brodie. "I guess we'll stick Thurmond in there somewhere," he said.

When Thurmond was nominated in 2001 at age 28, his youth and lack of experience raised eyebrows. He had tried seven cases by himself as an assistant prosecutor and had practiced law for three years.

But he won over at least one early skeptic, who said Thurmond was "one of the best U.S. attorneys" the state has had.

"He knew when he needed to get involved and when to leave the lawyers alone," said John Barton, a prosecutor who served under seven U.S. attorneys before retiring in October.

Thurmond said he submitted his resignation letter Nov. 19 and his last day will be Jan. 20. He said he will practice criminal and civil law, and probably become a lobbyist.

1. Probably getting ready for his appointment as Chief Justice
of the United States Supreme Court. Just think, with his Daddy's genes, he'll be good for a seventy-year reign.

8. "His daddy's genes" didn't necessarily come from Strom Thurmond...
Since Strom was publicly cuckolded by his "widow" for the last ten years of his miserable life, who's to say that she didn't start much earlier?

11. Yes, knowing how people felt about Strom, it's possible a
good Democrat had it in for him.

10. Why not? Unlike the USA job, he has the minimal qualifications
to be a named partner, IE, he is an exUSA with clout and crony connections.

Just don't ask him for a LEGAL opinion. Ask him how to put in the fix.

members is by it's heirs. If a GOP political figure thinks with an independent mind (thus being moral and honest and telling the truth) the GOP party will outcast and destroy not only this figure but all his/her heirs. I am 100% on this.

The GOP is an immoral party!

9. How old was Sen. Thurmond's wife?
I did a double take when I was that he was 28 when he was nominated in 2001. He's Strom's son, right? Wow!
