Naval Alumni Association Rejects Gay Group
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The governing board of the Naval Academy Alumni Association on Thursday rejected a bid from graduates who sought to establish a predominantly gay and lesbian alumni chapter.

No U.S. service academy has ever officially sanctioned a gay alumni chapter. The Naval Academy's alumni association rejected the gay group last year as well.

"I think when they reject us today, they are making their discrimination clear," said Jeff Petrie, who founded the group.

The group has been operating and inducting members for more than a year, even though it does not have the official sanction of the alumni association. Now 68 members strong, it is the only group the association has ever denied affiliation.

4. They should ask for Congressional help!!!!
Ed Shrock, the outgoing representative from the Virginia Tidewater area, a retired Navy Captain AND a Republican, was recently "outed"--much to the surprise of his wife, kids and constituents. The audio tapes of him specifying exactly what he liked doing were rather creepy (he apparently called one of those "hook up" phone message services that catered to the gay community). He decided, rather quickly, once realizing how persuasive the evidence was, not to run for reelection. He was considered a shoe-in up to that point.

Maybe he could put in a word for this group...think he will??? Naaaaah.....technically, he did not "serve honorably" if he engaged in these practices while on active duty, as there are rules against that lifestyle...and by admitting anything, he could forfeit his pension. Without that Congressional paycheck, he will need the money!

I'm still waiting to read about his divorce in the Virginian-Pilot...!

They should just get rid of Don't Ask, Don't Tell ... but odds are, with this administration, if they do ANYTHING to it, they'll probably go back to the old rules....except in case of a draft! In that case, they'll stop caring about orientation...
