Gregoire: Count every vote (urges state recount, not just Dem precincts)
Gregoire: Count every vote

By DAVID AMMONS
AP POLITICAL WRITER

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Democrat Christine Gregoire on Thursday urged her party to order a statewide hand recount of the 2.8 million votes for governor, and not just selected counties.

"My request of the state Democratic Party is simple: Count the entire state or don't count at all," she said in a statement released by her campaign office. "Counting every vote is the only right thing to do."

The party had no immediate response. Democrats are expected to order either a full statewide recount or a partial count on Friday.

Gregoire, 57, the three-term attorney general, trailed Republican rival Dino Rossi, 45, a former state Senate power, by just 42 votes after a mandatory recount was certified this week.

1. Times story indicates she will concede IF the party won't do whole state
Gregoire says recount the whole state or don't recount at all

By David Postman
Seattle Times chief political reporter

Christine Gregoire

Democrat Christine Gregoire said this morning that if her party doesn't raise the money for a statewide recount, she will concede the governor's race rather than count only a few counties.

"From the beginning this has been about getting all the votes counted so we can know for sure who won the governor's race," Gregoire said in a statement e-mailed to reporters.

"So, my request of the state Democratic Party is simple: count the entire state, or don't count at all. Counting every vote is the only right thing to do."

Republican Dino Rossi was certified as governor-elect Tuesday after last week's machine recount gave him a 42-vote victory margin - perhaps the closest governor's race in the nation's history.

Gregoire's statement does not say specificially what she will do if there is not money for a statewide recount. But a campaign spokesman, Morton Brilliant, said she would concede.

2. Disturbing As Rush Limbaugh In A Mini Skirt
It bugs the hell out of me that Washington, one of the last liberal refuges in America, is likely to be inherited by a Repuke. I was looking forward to escaping Ohio to a place like Seattle. Let's see what they do to the wildlife refuges and waterways. Have fun you damn idiots.
