Speculation Grows on Early Exit by Snow
Speculation Grows on Early Exit by Snow

<snip>

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Expectations that U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow would survive President Bush (news - web sites)'s Cabinet make-over for at least six months are rapidly yielding to a belief he may make a hastier exit, people close to the Bush administration said on Thursday.

Some sources said Snow could stay on for another month or two but likely not much longer.

White House chief of staff Andrew Card was among those cited as a possible replacement for Snow if he leaves. Other names floated were former Sen. Phil Gramm, U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick and White House budget chief Joshua Bolten."

They're dropping like flies.

2. No wonder he wants to leave.
The budget is a disaster and there are only two options. Massive tax increases and/or massive budget cuts. He realizes that giving Bush the facts of life in hopes of fixing the problem only gets you fired.

Snow is smart enough to know that now is the time get stepping unless he wants his name attached to economic Armageddon.

5. My guess is that Snow shared his views with Bush
Snow probably raised some concerns about Bush's social security and tax reforms. That's why someone said that Snow could leave as long as it's soon. Scary when even a bushbot doesn't agree with Bush's plans.

4. Doesn't Bush Have ANY Good Candidates?
Respected knowledgable people? Paul Volcker isn't interested?

This is Treasury, not Transportation or Agriculture. It's one of the most important cabinet jobs.

7. Snow's the one who "can stay as long as he wants..."
"... provided it is not very long," right?

Guess ol' John Snow didn't pass the Loyalty Litmus Test?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A18599-2004Nov28.html

One senior administration official said Treasury Secretary John W. Snow can stay as long as he wants, provided it is not very long. He might stay as long as six months into the term, officials said. Friends say Chief of Staff Andrew H. Card Jr. is one possibility to replace him. Bolten also could move over.
