U.S. Suspects Iran Is Making New Missiles
Interception of several technology shipments to Iran has bolstered U.S. suspicions that Iran is secretly developing an intercontinental ballistic missile that could threaten Europe and possibly the United States.

An intelligence report this week to Congress said North Korea (news - web sites), China and parts of the former Soviet Union provided Iran through the end of last year with ballistic-missile equipment, technology and expertise.

The report said Iran, in trying to improve existing missiles, was "also pursuing longer-range ballistic missiles."

A well-placed Bush administration official told The Associated Press on Thursday that U.S. interceptions had strengthened U.S. suspicions that Iran was trying to develop an intercontinental missile that could reach Europe and possibly the United States.

3. Thing is, there are valid reasons to be worried about...
... what the Mullahs in Iran are up to. It would probably be a good idea for the US to rally the world into putting heavy pressure on Tehran, maybe even make some sort of intervention.

Trouble is, Bush couldn't rally the world to attend a birthday party at this point, let alone address a genuine security concern. He has eliminated every last trace of US credibility with his escapade in Iraq.

And that's the part that's just beginning to sink in for a lot of people. The mess in Iraq is not the only effect of Bush's blunders... we're also paying the price in terms of our ability to act elsewhere, whether diplomatically or militarily.

4. Can't agree with you there,
Any nation under imminent threat of invasion by the US should have the right to a nuclear deterrent. It could be the one thing to stop an Iraq part 2 from happening. It always amazes me the arrogance and irony of the only nation to ever use an atomic weapon in warfare dictating who can and can't have a nuclear deterrent.

How many nukes does Israel have at the moment??

8. Will they ever trust us again?
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 11:19 AM by grumpy old fart
The real theme of F9/11 of course was that our young men and women, being lied to and led into an illegal war would (should) never again trust what the government tells them. In the same vein, after all the now obvious whoppers fed to the world at the U.N. by UncleTom Powell, will the world ever again believe what we have to say about threats our "intelligence" folks have uncovered?
