Germans nab 'terrorists' in Allawi assassination fear

BERLIN - Police in Germany arrested three suspected Iraqi terrorists on Friday in connection with the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, a senior official said.

The men were arrested after police special operations units stormed apartments in the German cities of Berlin, Stuttgart and Augsburg, said chief federal prosecutor Kay Nehm.

Nehm said the three belonged the banned extremist group Ansar al-Islam.

"The arrests took place against the background'' of Allawi's visit to Germany, an offical statement said.
