Suicide car bomb hits U-S Marines in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq A suicide car bomb has exploded near a unit of U-S Marines on the Iraqi side of the border with Jordan.

A U-S military spokesman says there are deaths among the troops, but there's no word on how many.

He says a Marine guard fired on the vehicle as it "closed in on a military position." But he says the car continued forward, then detonated.

The blast damaged one military vehicle.

The troops are part of the First Marine Expeditionary Force.

3.  As time goes by, I find
that I no longer differentiate between Reps and
Dems.

It is The Rich (worldwide) and the rest of us.

9.  damned if I know. I guess
they are blinded? or something by religion.

I shopped at the local Left Behinder grocery
today (yummy Alaska Ale :)

The carryout female (age 18-22) responded
to my comment that Reps want to destroy
all social programs, including SS, and that
it is coming.

Her response: I didn't vote for that.

Duh. SS was in the news months ago and then
the media and Reps dropped the hot topic.
Kerry brought it up again right before
the election - * has plans for SS in January.

But these dumbasses voted for him. They
also voted for *'s plans. ALL of his plans.

Damned if I know how to get through to these
fools. An on-line friend is a Left Behinder.

We've talked about it a bit but she really
doesn't want to talk about it. Part of the
problem is that her IQ is 100 or less.
Mine's a tad higher ;)

Neighbor across the street - he's Dem, she's
Rep. I asked her how she could vote for him,
how does she justify it. She refused to
answer. She said "because". Her husband
says she just goes along with her friends
and the people at work. Is this an abnormal
need to be liked and accepted? How spineless.

I give up trying to talk to them. I agree with
the poster today who said (paraphrasing) I will
no longer have anything to do with you in any
way,shape or form.

So, the neighbors can figure out what to do with
her 18 yr old son (if he is drafted) and comes
back leg/armless, no vision, brain damage because
there will be nothing for him or them.

6. I agree, and have been composing a letter to the editor about
the left right split being a distraction from the real split, between us and the ruling class.

10.  I am going to start a letter also.
But will take a while to get it done. I am
thinking about a longer piece and sending it
in for the Opinion Piece, as LTTE are limited
to 100 words.

I would like to know what the rich CEOs etc
think at night: Praise the Lord! Praise
his bud, *. We need mo' money and to hell
with everyone else because life is cheap!
but we be the privileged ones.

Store sales are down but Neiman's and Saks
are up uP Up UP

I keep telling myself, kismet, karma whatever
but I do like poster's comment: I want to
see justice in this world; reap what you sow.

Day 3 and there are 7 dead. Oh, and that was before this little bit of late breaking news.

I'm sure the chimp is bouncing up and down while giggling and clapping just at the thought of all this "success".

"The story of what we've done in the postwar period is remarkable. ... It is a better and more important story than losing a couple of soldiers every day." George Nethercutt (R-WA)

5. The quote at the bottom of your post
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 05:05 PM by progressiveBadger
almost made me want to throw up. What a jackass. If it was his family/friends dying over there he would be the first to call for an end to the war. The only thing I've seen accomplished in the postwar is get more of our troops killed than DURING the war.
But they are having elections, so I guess everything is ok. </sarcasm>

24. And the answer is.......
This constant spacey reply..."But look at all the good we are doing which is not being reported in the press," needs a strong rebuke. We are talking about war buddy. It does build houses, hospitals, or schools, or feed people, or keep them safe. These all can be done in a time of peace and, in fact, done better. How much of that rebuilding money has not been spent because of this chaos?

There is always this constant mix-up that somehow war brings these wonderful things. Sorry it is when the fighting stops that life can be made better. That is why they should not be started in the first place. The only two reasons to use military force is if you are directly attacked or there is such aggregious murder by a government of its population that a multinational force is needed to intervene. In this day and age there should be need for neither.

14. It is pretty horrible.
The guys at the vehicle checkpoints have it hard.

A close relative of mine works with the Corps in wild, wild west Eye-rack. I always hate these hours/days of ensuing comms lock-down, sorta wishing somebody else gets the tough news.

I also hate George Bush more every day. Eve-ry day.

much easier to try and find something that I like about his personal approach to complexity and adversity than to just hate him. It takes up much less of my time. :)

18. Jordan closes Iraqi border after attack
AMMAN (AFP) - Jordan closed its border crossing with Iraq (news - web sites) to all travellers coming from the war-torn country, a day after a van exploded at the Iraqi border post of Trebil.

~snip~
On Friday, a van exploded at Trebil, destroying a room often used by US army personnel.

Almost simultaneously, an Iraqi-registered civilian car rigged with explosives was detected at Jordan's Karameh crossing and its two Iraqi occupants arrested.

They were allegedly planning to detonate the car against a convoy of fuel tankers who were waiting for US security to escort them through Iraq.

21. Thanks for the update.
Public info on this one has been scarce as hen's teeth. The initial report said the two KIA were Marines with the first MEF, now this US major says they were two MNF 'soldiers'. And the target is described as a military VIP room.

Reporting is spotty at best around Baghdad. Out in the boonies, it's virtually nonexistent.

23. another update: 2 US soldiers killed near Jordanian border
Two U.S. soldiers were killed by roadside bombs Saturday, and two other Americans died in a suicide car bombing of their post near the Jordanian border the day before, the U.S. military said.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20041204/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq&cid=540&ncid=1480

of course this item is buried in today's news of the big bombings in Baghdad. :(

If they didn't have oil we wouldn't be there. Why can't
someone find something better and cleaner than oil to keep us
warm and our cars running. How had can that be? We could just
turn our backs on the whole Arab nations and live without the
fear of being blown up. Not to mention it could be cheaper as
well.
