Pentagon Says Insurgents Had Chemicals Lab
WASHINGTON - A chemical weapons laboratory that U.S. forces found last week in Fallujah as they chased out insurgents had chemicals and other paraphernalia to make deadly hydrogen cyanide, Pentagon (news - web sites) officials said Friday.

The Americans also found what Army Brig. Gen. David Rodriquez called "a mujahedeen chemical and biological book" outlining instructions and formulas for anthrax, chemical blood agents and explosive materials.

Iraq (news - web sites)'s national security adviser, Qassem Dawoud, reported the find Nov. 25. He said in Baghdad, Iraq's capital, that the laboratory was discovered in the southwestern sector of Fallujah, where pockets of insurgents were holding out against Marines who entered the rebellious city on Nov. 8.

Rodriquez told reporters Friday that the lab's chemicals, including sodium cyanide and hydrochloric acid, which if combined could be used to make hydrogen cyanide. That is a potentially lethal chemical agent

Unless this is a new lab, last week the Marine spokesperson denied knowledge, and spoke only about a large cache of arms. I'll look for the links...but it looks like more props from the US military.

here's a link about the Chem Lab found by the Iraqi's

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraqi troops searching suspected terrorist hideouts in Fallujah discovered a laboratory with manuals on how to manufacture explosives and toxins - including anthrax, Iraq's national security adviser said Thursday.

Qassem Dawoud said the lab was found in the southwestern district of Fallujah, where pockets of insurgents are still holding out following the Nov. 8 assault by American and Iraqi forces.

"We also found in the laboratory manuals and instructions spelling out procedures for making explosives," he said. "They also spoke about making anthrax."

3. After all the lies the Pentagon has floated
for propaganda, I don't believe anything that comes from them, i.e. Saddam's statue, the rescue of the female marine from the hospital for a couple of them.

5. Fallujah Troops Find Poison Gas Lab
anyone want a list of phone numbers)

Rodriquez said the lab’s chemicals included sodium cyanide and hydrochloric acid, which, if combined, could be used to make hydrogen cyanide, a potentially lethal chemical agent.Other officials said later the significance of the discoveries was not yet clear.

Rodriquez said other materials and documents found in Fallujah over the past few weeks, including rebels’ lists of telephone numbers, will help US and Iraqi forces in their hunt for militants elsewhere in Iraq.

“All that information that we gained out there we believe will help us in the future,” he said. He said information might show “what is happening with the insurgency and how they operate”.

7. So Saddam disposed of his stockpiles..
of WMDs, then we invaded using WMD stockpiles as an excuse, and now the insurgents are manufacturing WMDs (or are they?) which we are using as an excuse to continue the invasion?

If it wasn't something that was really happening, it would make a great screwball comedy. I coud see Peter Sellers in several of the lead roles.

10. So let me get this straight, Saddam didn't have any chems, we invade...
piss off the whole country of Iraq, then the people fighting us, know they can't compete with tanks, jets and helicopters, adopt a poor man's weapon like gas, and we are pissed at them?
I find this amusing to say the least. When we are firing shells that have depleted uranium, dropping cluster bombs, bunker busters, rumors of napalm, abusing prisoners, ignoring the Geneva convention, killing thousands of civilians in the process and god knows what else, the news makes it sound as if we are suddenly appalled at this finding of gas.
This is hypocrisy on the grandest scale.
Come on, are we really surprised that the rebels in Iraq have resorted to the use of gas? If in fact this story is true?
We have created a nation of desperate people.
Desperate people are the worse kind of enemy, they have nothing to lose.

11. Were they going to flow two flasks at someone, and hope for a reaction?
I recall the photo - there was a flask with blue liquid (someone said it looked like Scope mouthwash) a beaker with a clear liquid, a few small "chemistry set" sized bottles of powder, and something that looked like a box of toothpaste. Exactly how were they going to deliver this evil concoction? Throw two bottles in someone's general direction and hope the spilled liquids react and the small amount of gas overwhelms ten thousand marines?

If you read up about gas warfare in WWI, you will realize what a joke this is.

The picture reminded me more of a dental kit than anything else.

12. But the Bushies Will Call It Proof Positive
that we had some reason to bomb an innocent country and call it national security. Bushies have taken on this religious fervor that Bush is their earthly representative of God. A true phenomenon. But then so are they.

15. the chemistry set I had as a kid was more impressive
and, with the load of chems it came with, I bet I could do more inventive things with it than what's in that photo...

That's a "lab"? In that photo?

Meth labs are more impressive looking than this. And, I might add, far more dangerous.

16. Those are not banned chemicals.
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 04:47 AM by LynnTheDem
The rightwingnut bushbots seem to be under the mistaken belief that Iraq was not allowed to have ANY chemicals or ANY weapons. Not true at all. Iraq was totally allowed conventional weapons and chemicals and even many dual-use items. ALLOWED TO HAVE...NOT BANNED.

There are...were...pesticide companies in Iraq...pool companies in Iraq...farms in Iraq...manufacturing industries...etc etc etc.

These chemicals could have come from a raided farm or hospital or any one of a number of industrial companies. Yet the PENTAGON issues a statement about a "chemical LAB"??? PULEEEEEEEEEESE!

As for the "mujahedeen chem & bio book", who here hasn't had a chem & bio book throughout most their school days? Or did the "mujahedeen" just download the info from the internets.

Geeez this is incredibly pathetic; bush will do ANYTHING to try keeping his 60% ignorant bushbots ignorant.

I notice he's also trying to tie Iraq to the 911 attacks again with his "we must invade and fight the terrorists who secretly plan to murder innocent people" bullshit. The next time some reporter or non-rightwingnut official has the guts to call him on it, bush will just again admit that Iraq had nothing to do with 911 and deny he ever implied otherwise.

It's so damn EMBARRASSING, knowing the world knows we have so many totally stupid people in this country. :(
