Republican wins Democrat stronghold in Louisiana [LA-7, we win LA-3]
By ADAM NOSSITER
Associated Press Writer

NEW ORLEANS - Republicans took a bitterly contested U.S. House seat in congressional runoffs in Louisiana's Cajun country Saturday, while another race remained tight.

A longtime Democratic bastion in Louisiana's 7th District went to Republican heart surgeon Charles Boustany, who handily defeated Democratic state Sen. Willie Landry Mount.

Meanwhile, further south, the son of retiring House of Representatives powerhouse Billy Tauzin, Billy III, was locked in a close struggle with Democratic challenger Charles Melancon, a former state representative.

With 94 percent of the precincts reporting in the 7th District, Republican Boustany had 72,223 or 55 percent, and Democrat Mount had 58,968 or 45 percent.

How is it that there's only about 120,000 votes in a damned Congressional District race? At home here in Washington, the average votes per Congressional district was about 300,000.

Now, I know this was just a December runoff, but jeez-o-pete!, 200,000 less votes per district?!?!

WTF!?!?!???

4. If you ask me, both candidates in that race were republican
just one of them had a D next to their name.
