Parents Television Council files almost all FCC complaints
http://www.startribune.com/stories/459/5119884.html

One advocacy group has generated most of the complaints received by the Federal Communications Commission over the past two years, according to figures released by the agency in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The FCC said that in 2003, the Parents Television Council was responsible for filing all but 267 of the 202,032 indecency complaints received by the agency, or 99.86 percent.

This year, excluding protests about Janet Jackson's exposed breast during the Super Bowl halftime show, the nonprofit group again filed 99.9 percent of 442,899 complaints to the FCC as of Oct. 7. The Super Bowl incident generated about half a million complaints, 65,000 from the Parents Television Council.

The Parents Television Council was established in 1995 to restore television to "a socially responsible entertainment medium," according to its mission statement. Lara Mahaney, its director of corporate entertainment affairs, said she wasn't surprised that the million-member organization was responsible for the high percentage of complaints...

4. Media Research Center

USA Today is reporting that World Wrestling Entertainment has reached a settlement with the Parents Television Council over claims the PTC made that four children died after attempting moves they saw on WWE's Smackdown!.

The PTC agreed to pay WWE $3.5 million, retract the claims and publicly apologize for its statements.

The amusing thing is that PTC is an offshoot of Media Research Center. MRC is a conservative media watchdog whose mission is to point out inaccuracies and bias in the mainstream media.

We all know how well conservative adhere to truth and facts. This is just another example of a bunch of loonies trying to remake the world into their own image.

More lies and bias:

7. MRC
Had to laugh at a couple of things at the media research homepage. One of those 'what a hoot' moments - until thinking about what they are doing - then it's just ugly.

1. absolutely no mention of 'FOX news'. Does that mean this media research center sees them as the singularly unbiased channel for reporting the news?

2. the poll on the rightside of the page

---
Do you think the NBC Nightly News will be more liberally biased, less biased, or unchanged by incoming anchorman Brian Williams?
See Story
More biased
Less biased
Unchanged

is placed next to (and references - See Story) an article titled New Anchorman, Same Old Bias

-------- :pass the kool-ade:

Ok, I've had enough. Just looked at their links page:

"The MRC offers the following links as an additional resource for information on various organizations which help expose or counter liberal media bias in the mainstream press."

Limbaugh, Free Republic, the NRA, Drudge, Hannity, Parent Television Council, Laura Ingraham, and the Heritage Foundation, among other bastions of impartiality :eyes:

5. I was wondering (since I can't start a thread)
The new movie they've been advertising...Meet the Fockers?

Obviously this is an "in your face" title. The movie doesn't look that great to me, but does anyone think it a good idea to pay the money to see it, as a sort of endorsement/protest?

6. Meet the Fockers is a sequel
...to Meet the Parents. There are obvious sexual innuendos to be expected, just like in the original movie.

As is with all other forms of media, if the PTC finds it offensive, they have the freedom of choice to turn the TV off, quit reading, go see another movie, and STFU; there are folks who don't find it offensive and don't need a watchdog group telling them otherwise.
