Broadband challenges TV viewing (Yurpeens)
The number of Europeans with broadband has exploded over the past 12 months, with the web eating into TV viewing habits, research suggests.

Just over 54 million people are hooked up to the net via broadband, up from 34 million a year ago, according to market analysts Nielsen/NetRatings.

The total number of people online in Europe has broken the 100 million mark.

The popularity of the net has meant that many are turning away from TV, say analysts Jupiter Research.

3. This is cool! Not a moment too soon, either.
From the article:
It found that a quarter of web users said they spent less time watching TV in favour of the net

The report by Nielsen/NetRatings found that the number of people with fast internet access had risen by 60% over the past year.

The biggest jump was in Italy, where it rose by 120%. Britain was close behind, with broadband users almost doubling in a year.
(snip)
Wonderful. Learning to pay attention and think all over again! TV has been a narcotic for so long.

5. I use my Dish PVR to record the few shows I am interested in
and wait till I have a large block of free time, and then watch several episodes together, sans commercials..

I rarely ever watch anything "live" on tv..

They lost me a long time ago..Crappola shows stay on, and good ones get cancelled..bah !!

7. In Finland I watch
the local TV channels and BBC World but I spend 14 hours with my broadband and get far more varied and up-to-date and up-to-the minute info from here which I then tell my wife who watch the satellite or local TV stations.

So I have virtually given up TV since i installed broadband about four ago.

9. Broadband and TIVO give me the control instead of network programmers!
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 05:48 PM by The Zanti Regent
The only shows I watch now are Sopranos and Monk.

I watch BBC America and Newsworld International for news and that is it.

The rest of the time I am on broadband and not missing the lies that are on the idiot box.
