Musharraf: Iraq war has made world 'less safe'
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was a mistake that has made the world a more dangerous place, but a swift withdrawal would make matters worse, Pakistan's president said this weekend.

"I think it's less safe," Gen. Pervez Musharraf said on CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer." Asked whether he considered the invasion a mistake, the Pakistani leader said, "With hindsight, yes. We have landed ourselves in more trouble, yes."

Musharraf was in Washington on Saturday for a brief meeting with President Bush. The two discussed the issue of terrorism, bilateral concerns, relations between India and Pakistan and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. (Full story)

Although ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein "was a hated man" in his own country, many Iraqis have now turned their wrath on the U.S.-led forces that remain behind to provide security for an interim government, Musharraf said

1. duh
a whole bunch of people around the world knew that the Iraq invasion was a mistake before it happened. We knew that it would make the world a more dangerous place. That's why we took to the streets. Of course, the freepers who spat at us knew better-they even said Bush was the Second Coming.

I don't see how the US staying in Iraq is going to make matters better. It seems to be making matters worse. What is needed, imho, is for the Iraqi government to ask for a coalition of other nations, predominantly Islamic, to come and help establish some stability.

2. I guess you "Masters of the Universe" are incapable of understanding
A FACT of "common" human existence: trust is the greatest human "commodity" and, once you betray it, it requires ten-fold energy to re-acquire.

Ya'll betrayed "the people". We're not talking merely "your" people,...but ALL "the people".

Trust ain't for free, either!!!

And you don't have nearly as much "capital" as ya'll want to believe,...'cause without human "capital",...all of you are NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING!!!

I bet if the US gets to interview Abdul Qadeer Khan, they'll get the planes they want. :eyes: Not going to withhold aid for Pakistan only planes.

7. Why would arms dealers who are ruling the world really give a damn?
They don't.

They are obsessed with procurement and profits and power,...they are short-term glory, the future isn't a concern since they'll be dead, kind of operators.

They're a disease.

Naturally, they're small,...and we are far bigger than their small boxes.

It'll all work out.

Life has a way,...

4. Pervez dissing Bush fresh off his WH visit?
He should be careful; he's not the first militaristic dictator the US has cozied up to and then soured on. Oh, wait...but he has nukes. Never mind.

12. True.
Pervez Musharraf has a big mouth. And he doesn't seem to be shaking in his boots. No cowering for him.

Fact is: Musharraf is Our Kind of Guy. He's a dictator. He blasted his way in with a military coup. Noam Chomsky traced the 9/11 terrorists to Pakistan. They didn't come from there (they were Saudis) but they trained in Pak and they had all kinds of other connections with that country.

These guys are nothing if they are not brazen. Musharraf boldly demands 2 ultra-expensive fighter jets, and he got them. He asked for his debt to be written off which I believe was around $2 billion. King George waved his hand, and poof it was gone.

The U.S.: friend of all dictators of all shapes and colors around the world.

8. Which, again, was exactly the original intent.
Look at who profits from the crime. And on all, political, both domestic and international, financial, economic, social, even moral, levels. The reactionaries have played the hand dealt to them by 9/11 at the best. Assuming that they did not play some sort of active role in it, which is not entirely clear either.

16. Of course. Everyone with ANY common sense knew this before the war
And even bush's own State Department admits terrorism has increased since bush's illegal Hitleresque war of aggression.

Sure shows how dumb freeping rightwingnuts are...they don't have a clue.
