Five Blasts Reported in Spain After ETA Threats

MADRID (Reuters) - Five explosions were reported in different parts of Spain Monday after the Basque separatist group ETA threatened to set off a total of seven bombs, Spanish media reported.


El Pais newspaper said on its Web site explosions had gone off in Leon in the north of Spain, Malaga in the south and Santillana del Mar in the north.


El Mundo's Web site said explosions were also reported in Avila, northwest of Madrid, and in Ciudad Real, to the south of Madrid.

1. AP- Seven Blasts Reported in Spain After ETA Threats

MADRID (Reuters) - Seven explosions hit Spain on Monday, wounding at least two or three people, after the Basque separatist group ETA threatened to set off a series of bombs, Spanish officials and media said.


Officials said the people were wounded in a bomb in Santillana del Mar in northern Spain, and said another bomb exploded in Ciudad Real to the south of Madrid.


El Pais newspaper said on its Web site explosions had also gone off in Leon in the north and Malaga in the south. El Mundo's Web site said explosions were also reported in Avila, northwest of Madrid. Media also reported two more explosions.


None of the sites are within Spain's Basque Country, which is made up of three provinces in the north of Spain that Basque nationalists say are part of a greater Basque homeland including Navarra and three provinces in France.

3. ETA Sets Off 7 Bombs Across Spain, at Least 5 Hurt

The small bombs slightly wounded at least five people, including a 7-year-old girl, as the country marked the anniversary of the 1978 constitution, bitterly opposed by ETA for enshrining the Basque region as part of Spain.


They followed five coordinated bombings on Friday at service stations along major highways around Madrid, which slightly wounded two police officers.

4. Strange: "Damage was minor" said the Guardian ...

which is strange and somewhat unlike ETA. If you are going to have a concerted bombing attack, at least let it be big. Something smells here, and i would look to the RW in the police. BTW the recent talk from ETA has been for a cease fire.
