Gay ordinance triggers hate mail (Bettendorf IA)

A proposed ordinance making it illegal to discriminate against gays and lesbians in Bettendorf has generated hate mail and irate phone calls for city council members.

Councilwoman Debe LaMar said her vote in support of the revision to the city's civil rights ordinance made her a target for angry letters and calls.

A crowd of at least 100 opponents packed the council chambers on Nov. 2, the night of the third and final vote.

i wonder what church got the natives all riled up.

They should write back & quote the parts of the Bible where it says not to eat shellfish & not to wear clothes of mixed fabrics. Typical "cafeteria Christians".

6. Bettendorf is a heavily GOP town

A vast wasteland of strip malls and Mc Mansions. The fundies have some influence there, but not as much as the "money" GOP. This is more than likely an effort by area wide "Christians". Bettendorf may be GOP but it is a red island in the blue sea of eastern Iowa, northwestern Illinois.
