WSJ: Fox Will Become Main News Source For Clear Channel
Kids, we couldn't make this one up in a million years.
http://online.wsj.com/article_email/0,,SB110229064974891515-IRje4NllaF3o5uuan2Gb6uJm4,00.html

By JOE FLINT
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
December 6, 2004; Page B4

News Corp.'s Fox News has reached an agreement to become the primary news provider to radio giant Clear Channel Communications Inc.

The pact stands to greatly boost the radio presence of Fox News, which rolled out its service last year, as it looks to compete with the much more entrenched CBS Radio, a unit of Viacom Inc., and Walt Disney Co.'s ABC Radio.

Under the terms of the five-year deal, which starts next year, as many as 172 of Clear Channel's news and talk stations could eventually carry Fox's radio service, which includes news updates of up to five minutes per hour and syndicated talk shows by some of its cable news personalities, including Alan Colmes.

... ABC Radio will absorb the biggest blow from the Clear Channel-Fox News deal, according to Clear Channel's Mr. Hogan. While this deal doesn't necessarily mean that Clear Channel would drop ABC, he indicated that likely would be the case and that the bulk of the stations involved in this pact are affiliated with ABC's syndicated news service.

if journalistic standards actually meant anything today they would be laughed out of broadcasting.

10. My Air America affiliate has ABC news now, it will probably go to Fox
In my area, Clear Channel owns several stations that use ABC for the hourly national news broadcasts, including a right wing station and also one where Air America is carried. I am sure they will all switch to Fox News. So much for being able to enjoy several hours a day of RW-free radio.

Their FM talk station is RW whakjobs 24/7

Advertised simply as "Talk Radio"

Is this an attempt to redraw lines between "mainstream" and "fringe" in New England?

"Goebbel's goal is being achieved by the American fascists of BushInc."

The Bushistas are much better than Goebbels was. He still had to use force. Your fellow countrymen don't even realize what's going on.

Yes, I very much think you really need your own "mouthpiece" news channel. I also think that you - we - are going to need all the computer-specialists we can get. In PNAC they said they want to control the internet - that scares me more than anything else. Once they accomplish that, it will really be pitch black.

31. Check out Sirius!
I'm telling you! Air America news is what is broadcast during the news break.

And the new CEO significantly contributed to Democrats!

Is your sanity worth an initial expenditure of about $150, and a monthly fee of less than $15.00. I think so.

What's to keep Sirius' liberal channels from slowly drifting right? I think that Howard Stern's involvement (and the new CEO he is behind) will be a major step in the preservation of free speech.

37. We have to stop Clear Channel. Ideas here! Kick! kick!
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 04:09 PM by Liberty Belle
Clear Channel is the same company that's behind those dictator-like Bush billboards springing up all over the country.

Isn't there some sort of anti-monopoly laws that can be invoked here to stop this? Lawyers, please help.

Here in San Diego, Clear Channel owns the station Air America is on. They are running ads featuring Republican Duncan Hunter, a far right wing Congressman, against 911 Comission reforms.

This is our worst nightmare. How can we stop Fox and Clear Channel from teaming up to further brainwash the masses? Are these companies publicly owned? Can we start a stockholder revolt, sell off stock and make the price plummet, or start a boycott of Clear Channel advertisers to force Clear Channel to choose some better news source than Faux?

Everyone, please offer constructive ideas. Let's come up with a game plan!

Both ABC, FOX & Clearchannel supported Bush lies about WMDs, all three supported Bush's "Saddam caused 9/11" lies, all three repeated the "John Kerry faked his medals" lies as facts.

All three REFUSED to cover election fraud-in 2000 & 2004, ETC,ETC,ETC.

In my area Clear Channel just changed a local long-time hard rock station, KSJO, to Spanish language programming, and I understand that this is not an isolated event. I heard further that Univision, Spanish language TV, is now run by the right wing, and I saw on the economic thread the other day that Univision donated red. The right wing is obviously making a play to brainwash the US Hispanic population.

Agencies Worry Over CC's Spot-Load Cuts
December 03, 2004
By Paul Heine
http://www.mediaweek.com/mediaweek/headlines/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000731546

( snip )
"The American Association of Advertising Agencies has articulated "three major concerns" to Clear Channel Radio CEO John Hogan about the company's Less Is More spot-load reduction initiative.

Specifically, the 4A's cites a lack of research, accountability and spot-length restrictions on first-pod position commercials as issues that "should be addressed and resolved in the immediate future, since they are important for determining how clients will choose to value Clear Channel Radio stations as we move forward," said committee chairman Kevin Gallagher in a letter to Hogan."

63. We have to get on this
I plan to call KFGO (Ed Schultz' home station in Fargo) and let them know that I consider this tantamount to dropping news in favor of a Republican advertising feed. It's nothing more.

I think we have to nip this one in the buds. This is as worthy or more of a concerted effort as our efforts against Sinclair broadcasting.

Can anyone point to my truly analytical studies of the content of Fox News and its other programming, indicating it's (otherwise obvious) right wing bent?
