Rumsfeld Stays On, Hopes Troops Quit Iraq in 4 Years
KUWAIT (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said on Monday he had agreed to stay in his job and hoped U.S. troops would be pulled out of Iraq (news - web sites) during the Bush administration's second four-year term.

"I would certainly expect that would be the case, and hope that would be the case," Rumsfeld told reporters traveling with him, when asked if U.S. troops would be pulled out of Iraq in the next term.

~snip~

Asked about mistakes during the first term, Rumsfeld pointed to faulty intelligence before the Iraq war.

"The fact that one of the bases for going into Iraq which this administration articulated was the conviction that they had weapons of mass destruction which would be findable," Rumsfeld said. "So that is clearly a disappointment." But, he said: "There are many, many reasons to do what was done and the Iraqi people and the world is a vastly better place today with Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) and his crowd out."

He added: "But I don't think anyone would say that the intelligence left anyone with the impression that you'd be in the degree of insurgency you're in today and resistance on the part of a mixture of Baathists and pro-dictatorship, pro-Saddam people mixed in with some foreign terrorists and extremists."

1. Thou shalt not lie.
Its impossible to teach the youth of america to be honest, forthright, decent, humane, compassionate, and ethical behaviour in general when lowlife like Rummy and his gang consistently lie and pass the buck. Thieves, liars, mass murderers, all of them.

4. Rummy has a plan
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 02:00 PM by IanDB1
He's going to pin the "intelligence failure" on an Israeli spy.

Because Islamaphobia and Homophobia aren't enough. They need Anti-Semitism, too.

No scapegoating fascist regime is complete without being able to demonize Jews.

It's right there in chapter one of "Fascism for Dummies."

The Israeli government has strongly denied reports that a senior US defense department official spied for Israel.

The suspected spy is said to have links to Douglas Feith, a key adviser to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Mr Feith, along with Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, is believed to have played a key role in planning the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

So, Rumsfeld gets to deflect blame to Jews and Israel, right at a time when anti-Jewish and anti-Israel sentiment around the world is reaching a fever pitch.

So, our national policy is now:
1) Muslims hate us for our freedom
2) Homosexuals will destroy our society by getting married
3) Jews "tricked" us into invading Iraq

Welcome to the next Holocaust, boys and girls. Hold on to your gold fillings.

5. Remember--when a Democratic Presidential Candidate says
something like "I'd like to have everyone out of Iraq during my first term," that consitutes setting a deadline and emboldening our terrarist enemy.

when Rummy says it, OTOH... well, does the SCLM even notice the hypocrisy?

he took one look at Somalia and withdrew the troops.
And they hated him for it.
Guess they must really like the pResident.
He love them long time.

7. I'll translate:"No one knew that we could screw this up on the level we...
Have. I am sure that everyone made assumptions about our basic competence but the information they were given didn't clearly state how bad of a job we could do and have done.

8. Translation: from Rumsfeldese to
English: "I don't think anyone would say.....left anyone with the impression....the degree of insurgency......"

Translation: "We didn't think the Iraqis would rebel as much as they did." We thought they would be OK about us coming in, running over their kids with our tanks, and shooting their people in the head with our weapons.

"We're just stupid idiots. Since my only skill in this life is to obfuscate and sugar-coat statements and weasel out of things, I've gotten VERY good at that. I'm a failure at everything else I've ever done, though."

**I love that first statement: "he agreed to stay in his job". When the ENTIRE WORLD demanded his ouster. His incompetency has caused the deaths of many, and he doesn't give a rat's ass.

Now, consider that RumsFailed is 74 (I think). That means that by the end of BeelzeBush's 2nd term, this ass will be 78 YEARS OLD.. There's an old codger I'd trust, you betcha. All his faculties are functioning.

10. REAL translation . . .
"We ain't leavin', now or ever. That's how it is, and that's how it's always been, since Day 1. Why would we leave? Iraq is our new base in the region, complete with 14 permanent new bases and a huge new embassy that will serve us well in the coming decades. Leavin'? No way."

“Stay the course” (even if it’s repeatedly driving into a wall again and again) and ignore the “thousand points of light” that of which is reality.

13. Talk about a faith-based administration!
Last week we had Tom Ridge "knocking on wood" when he said he hoped we wouldn't have to raise the security alert level, now we have Rumsfeld "hoping" to bring the troops home? What is up with these guys anyway?

Too much faith if you asked me.

14. I understand not having a concrete time table
Too many unknowns, you can't say A+B will take x amount of time, it just doesn't work that way. Same goes for terror threats, the best you can say is "We're doing everything thing in our power to thwart the threat".

That said, Rums is the guy who wanted 50,000 troops for the entire Iraq job, he's the one who said Iraqi's would be throwing flowers at the Americans, he's the one who said there were only a few thugs causing problems, he has absolutely zero credibility to anyone who has their ears cleaned out and are in touch with reality (50+ million Americans do not thanks largely in part to Roves successful fear factor.).

17. Of course nobody can be 100% certain
however... you don't want the attorney defending you to say that "he hopes to win the case" and neither do you want to hear your physician telling you to "cross your fingers" that his treatment works.

Do you?

18. True but...
You don't want to say we'll be out in 4 years and if 4 years comes and the job isn't complete the enemy can use that as a victory.

and that's not counting the mass Iraqi graves that BushCo dug and filled.

all for a pack of lies

and all for nothing
