AP: Bush Honeymoon May Not Last Long
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&ncid=703&e=8&u=/ap/20041206/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_s_honeymoon

WASHINGTON - If President Bush (news - web sites) gets a second-term honeymoon, it may not last long. Or it may already be over. A failure in the coming days to win congressional passage of the intelligence reorganization bill he supports — fretting House Republicans are standing in the way — would not bode well for political bliss when the new Congress convenes next month.

-snip-

"He won the election, that's true. And he picked up a few House and Senate seats. But his coattails weren't that long. I don't think you can come back after the election and expect people to just fall in line," Nofziger said.

-snip-

"Bush gets a respite, but not a honeymoon. He inherits a still-divided electorate, a somewhat hostile international community, and high expectations hyped by the conservative Republicans," said Georgetown University presidential scholar Stephen Wayne. "And I think the president's claim of political capital is probably exaggerated."

I'm sure the buyers remorse will sit in next month.

3. Sounds orchestrated to me.
Bush can't get the 9/11 bill through? With a 98-2 Senate vote?
If he wanted it, he'd have it. He doesn't want independent oversite.

The honeymoon may be over quickly, but it has nothing to do with why the 9/11 changes are not being implemented.

6. They're going to play good cop/bad cop
with us and soon we won't know who to be mad at. It's the mean conservatives in congress, no it's the neocons in the executive, and the only thing that's going to get done is a royal fleecing.

9. that's our job for the next 4 years: Keep everyone focused.
It doesn't matter if it's the House, the Senate, the Agencies, the Court, or the White House. They're ALL Republican. They're ALL at fault.
