Mexico City police chief sacked
6 December, 2004, 22:27 GMT

Mexican President Vicente Fox has sacked Mexico City's police chief over a mob attack that killed two police officers in the capital last month.

The president criticised police chief Marcelo Ebrard because his forces took several hours to get to the scene.

Mr Fox also dismissed the head of a federal force that was slow to respond.

Analysts say the row over the killings has fuelled a political confrontation between President Fox and Mexico mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

Mr Ebrard said back-up police units were unable to get through for more than three and-a-half hours because of heavy traffic.

Gee, didn't Rudy Guiliana get paid millions of dollars to straighten out Mexico City's crime problems?
