Navy Boss: Don't Prejudge Detainee Photos

By Miguel Navrot
Journal Staff Writer
Navy Secretary Gordon England, defending the service's elite forces in Iraq, on Monday urged Americans to avoid forming conclusions about new photos possibly showing Iraqi detainee abuse.

"Until I know there's been wrongdoing, my assumption is that we're doing things right until proven otherwise," England said about newly surfaced photos possibly depicting Navy SEALs abusing prisoners in Iraq.
(snip)

"It's very important that we get on with these elections," Gordon said, predicting additional violence in Iraq between now and the vote. "The insurgents don't want the elections because, otherwise, they lose. And, of course, we want the elections."
(snip)

England, in his first public comments since the latest photos of what appear to be abuse of Iraqi detainees emerged last week, said "nobody knows the context of any of these photographs." The military has launched a criminal inquiry into the photos, which The Associated Press recently discovered on a commercial Internet site.

Make up your mind! The reporter refers to the subject as both "Gordon" and then as "England!" From a warm, first-name basis to a remote, distant attitude. Lover's quarrel? They can't BOTH be correct.

2. I see, so, much like our own elections...
stifle any bad news until after the election, then trivialize it. Welcome to Democracy Republican Style.

3. Ever notice how those who would deny

due process to another always cry the loudest for their own due process?

Had those pictures depicted American soldiers in those exact same circumstances, America...and more especially England and Bush Inc.....would be screaming "abuse!" at the top of their lungs.

13. They'd be screaming 'war crimes' and 'torture'
because we'd be on the receiving end.

15. I think the word would be "torture" - not abuse.
But remember - who ya gonna believe you're lying eyes or bushco?

And, in just what "context" would the acts the photos depict be OK herr general?

And, do ya think he would be screaming loudly that "we don't abuse/torture anybody" if these pictures didn't come out? He'd bbe calling us all traitors and worse.

6. The US Military lost the benefit of the doubt some time ago
I can't imagine what 'context' would explain these atrocities.

I'm getting really, really tired of excuses. That's all we fucking get from the Bush administration: Excuses and spin. And a HUGE debt.

7. Weren't there supposed to be even more gruesome pictures and videos?
Not involving the Navy SEALS -- but from Abu Ghraib, involving soldiers abusing and raping Iraqi minors?

Was this just rumor, exageration, or fact?

8. yes - but my congresscritter vetoed letting them out in public
warner claimed it could incite retaliation against us soldiers and blocked the release....
scum bag.

what invites retaliation is having a civilian leadership in the pentagon that sets a tone where such behaviour as abu ghraib is rewarded (until the photos get out anyhow and even then only low level grunts get punished.)

This poor guy had a rough night and our brave boys are just helping him out:

And they just needed a light here, it's an unfortunate coincidence the light was attached to the business end of a deadly weapon:

Yes, compassionate occupation in action:

Lynddie Englund would be proud of these guys:

11. What A Bunch Of Animals
This is beyond the beyond. There is NO way to fucking spin these pictures. NONE. I feel sick and as I write these words I am listening to Cheney lie his ass off in Afghanistan. What fucking criminals.

I am just so weary of what these liars cheats and murderers in the WH are promoting.
