hardly a 'girl' at that age (but must be under legal age in that state)



......Police said in the spring, Hintz began a relationship with a 17-year-old Johnston girl who was a member of the church's youth group. The teen later told a counselor about the alleged relationship.

"The family had sought some counseling in the matter ... and the victim had made some admissions to a mandatory reporter, who, in turn, notified department of human services, who notified us," Johnston police Sgt. Lynn Aswegan told KCCI.

Hintz's defense attorney, F. Montgomery Brown, told KCCI that his client denies the charges.

"They're claiming that this minor -- who is not a child, but a minor -- allegedly had inappropriate contact with my client in his capacity as a clergyman ... He denies and he intends to plead not guilty," Brown said........

in geneal usage is under 12 or so (for the most part).
So, I agree--a 17 year old is not a child. But this is not to say that it is horrible!!

So if, as he claims, he committed no sex crimes, it would make no difference whether he didn't commit them against a child or didn't commit them against a minor. It would be irrelevant. His protesting too much has made it relevant.

I just thought it was very telling that those were the first words out of the lawyer's mouth. I wouldn't be surprised if the second words were, "oh, and the minor was wearing a mini-skirt when this didn't happen."
