Gulf states makes noises for security independence from US

MANAMA - Gulf countries are making noises about new security arrangements that would reduce their traditional alliance with the United States, a move whose feasibility was quickly questioned by observers. snip

Speaking at the meeting, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal stressed the “urgency of global reforms in countries of the region.”

He also stressed “the need for a security (system) in the Gulf, based on four pillars: the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Yemen, Iraq and India.” snip

Prince Faisal, who had criticised US policy in Iraq, said ”security in the Gulf needs international guarantees which cannot be ensured by a single party, even by the sole world superpower.”

4. Now why would they not think that they could put their best interests
into the hands of the United States?

Maybe 100,000 dead that never did anything to deserve the inferno and shooting gallery reality that is now Iraq?

And don't look now, but we are not the world's sold superpower. And the competition is on to see who gets to be top dog.
