Fighting Rages in Iraq's Rebel-Held Ramadi
RAMADI, Iraq (Reuters) - Fighting raged between rebels controlling the western Iraq (news - web sites) town of Ramadi and U.S. Marines Wednesday after two Iraqis were killed in clashes following a suicide car bomb attack, witnesses said.

~snip~

Warplanes were heard over Ramadi, where witnesses said a U.S. armored vehicle was in flames and smoke rose from an American base that was hit by a mortar.

Fighting spread from the center of the city to the industrial zone in the east after a suicide bomber attacked a U.S. military checkpoint and clashes killed two Iraqi civilians.

There were no immediate reports of U.S. casualties.

Ramadi, 110 km (65 miles) west of Baghdad and the capital of the restive Anbar province, has been occupied by insurgents for the past six months or more. Like Falluja previously, it has become a stronghold of anti-American resistance.

2. Ramadi is a big rally point for the Iraqi resistance, not anti-Iraqi
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 08:53 AM by KingChicken
The only people that are anti-Iraqi are the Americans, we are the ones who stumble around like idiots over there, picking fights with people who see themselves as defending their property.

Hey Rummy, want to destroy another city? Think you have enough time to rebuild it by elections, or are you just going to put up some booths and hope for a good outcome.

Everyone who is not dumb or delusional is laughing at Liberal traitors. Liberals will be the big bitter loser opposition to successful American president W. Bush. Liberals are not exactly the laughing stock but it is very close.

5. I'm waiting for that, when is the success going to start?

After the fall of America? Wake up right wingers, we are losing to the terrorists because we use blind aggression.

Do you really think "getting tough on terror" is a novel idea? A well trained monkey could have thought up a mindlessly aggressive strategy like that...

Aggreession only serves to aid the cause of those opposed to this country, agression only serves to build reasons for more people to rightfully hate this country.

- Sorry I just had to start my rambling to the "guest freeper"... I should know better, they are blind to anyone opposed to them.

13. Tough on terror
IOt amazes that Tony Blair can at this moment be sitting with Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness negotiating an end to the war in Ireland while maintaining that "we can't negotiate" with terrorists elsewhere.

8. Go Back To The Yahoo Boards.
You might get a couple of recs. for that Nazi propaganda. Why don't read some quotes from Hitler about patriotism and his faith in Jesus. You probably won't be laughing too much after that.

12. yes, looks like Ramadi is the US military's new Fallujah
The U.S. military has said it will try to drive insurgents out of all strongholds by the end of the year, meaning Ramadi could be subjected to an offensive similar to that in Falluja.

Despite the threat of a showdown with U.S. forces, insurgents remain defiant and have mounted attacks across Iraq.

10. Peak theory of civilization, not just democracy...
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 09:13 AM by KingChicken
Nothing is really destroyed, it just changes. The Roman empire really took several hundred years to fall, and in the end it wasn’t a destruction, it was really an assimilation of the people's of the empire into cultural units, in the east and west.

Rome never fell, it's people just changed so much overtime that the empire was transcended and, people outside of the empire were becoming capable of civilization, which made the civilized safe haven of Rome irrelevant. Of course you can't forget the resulting dark ages. Transition is always followed by consolidation.

All governments, tyrannical or not, fall eventually.
On the whole, the tyrannical and belligerent ones tend to fall faster.

Edit: I'm sure the Swiss will be alarmed to find Adams thinks they are
doomed.
