Job Cuts 'Will Be Nothing Like 10,000' - BBC Chief
BBC director-general Mark Thompson sought to reassure staff today over the scale of future job losses.

Thousands more jobs are expected to go in addition to the 2,900 announced yesterday.

But rumours that the total figure will reach 10,000 is a “wild exaggeration”, Mr Thompson insisted.

He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “I think there will be some additional job losses announced over the coming months, but nothing like getting up to that 10,000 figure.”
...
Of the 2,900 losses announced yesterday, 2,500 are in administrative departments such as human resources, finance, marketing and legal services.

The other 400 posts are in the corporation’s factual and learning department.

Further job cuts in other BBC departments, including news, are expected next March.

Hey - why doesn't our government have a "factual and learning department"?
