Missing votes found in machines
These were found on the brand new Sequoias NV SOS Dean Heller bragged about nationwide. How many other votes "were left behind?"

We need a new movement "No Vote Left Behind"

ELKO - Elko County Clerk Win Smith said 271 votes in November's general election were not counted because of a "computer glitch" with the new touch-screen machine system.

Smith said three result cards from machines used at the Elko Convention Center, the voting location for the City of Elko, were found to have had problems.

However, she said those votes have since been recovered from the computer cards and added to the final totals.

"The good thing is that they found it," Elko County Manager Rob Stokes said.

2. I still say the States should demand restitution from the mfgs
for these machines that had "glitches"! ALL the manufacturers of the different machines should have to take the current ones back and rund them through rigorous testing the insure ALL GLITCHES are found and corrected! Then, as restitution, they should have to provide an additional number of new voting machines equal to the number that were pruchased by that state, and provide them FREE OF CHARGE! All of this should be done within the next 9 months to insure the corrected equipment is available for the next elections.

This whole thing is simply unacceptable! If my company had spent the amount of $$ to purchase a NEW tabulating system that had this many problems, we would have been in court within the month!!!

6. good point, we paid for the election to be tampered with
and the coup de tat to be maintained against the wishes of the voters.

It's OK in Nevada, though. Screwing for $$ is legal there. Now, about the rest of the states...

10. I have to find the link to an article about how Heller and Senators
Ensign and Reid to a bill to congress a few months back to force every state in the nation to have to buy these type of paper trailed printers by the next election. They were using Nevada as an example of how good this is. I sure wish I could find a link between Heller and his wallet and Sequoia. What a cozy deal that company has. Screw the taxpayer and screw the voter.

36. The ironic thing is, that screwing for $ is not legal in Las Vegas
which went for Kerry, while it is in most of the rest of the state, which went for the "moral" candidate

25. A solid year before the elections, I warned and begged and demanded,...
,...that members of congress address the new computer voting machines (most of which, as we all know, are created by the corrupt sect of our governing body). I must have written 40+ letters and encouraged others to do so as well.

The computer voting machines were a train steaming down the tracks and they should have been a priority!!!

GAWD,...I could just spit fire!!! :grr:

5. 'Glitch' = MALFUNCTION
Change the meme... every time you talk aboout it, email about it, post about it, call it what it is. It is a malfunction.

And there are SO many of them, it is ridiculous. "No Votes Left Behind"... I like it!

27. Yes. Language is important. I'd allege: potential TREASON!!!
There is a distinct possibility that TREASON has been committed via an intentional manipulation of votes programmed into the computer voting machines.

8. Defining the problem as a glitch is suspicious
Is it just me or does it seem odd that the "glitches" or "malfunctions" redistribute votes? My experience with software programs are that when there is an unintended mistake in the design and code, the behaviour of the program is erratic and output is typically garbage. This clean switching of votes seems so unlikely.

21. Yes, it IS odd
I agree, most times an error is an error of magnitude, quickly noticeable or giving obvious errors upon output. So many 'small glitches' would be harder to do by accident. I think most programmers would agree with that, but I've got a (relatively) small amount of programming experience, and none with voting software.

I want SHARPIES and PAPER, DAMMIT.

29. Or, even the dreaded word "error" could be used
Maybe programming bug? Anyway, glitch is a very mild euphemism, which seems to have become the party line usage. I don't recall this usage being popular before the election problems - most people would say software was buggy or error prone.

11. I agree with you, disqualify the whole damn system.
Our county has our former voting machines and ballots in mothballs now. Same with the city here and they only used the ballot machines for one election, 2000.

Someone on another thread related to this made a good point, there are voter's logs at every precinct. Why isn't it part of standard procedure to cross check each precinct's machines totals with the voting logs from the day of the vote? And this is being screwed up at the ground level of this new system, where the voter stands.

13. I think the story is that they found these by ACCIDENT.
How could 'the number of voters and the number of votes did not match" come up now, but not when they were counting votes?

I know those numbers don't have to match, but shouldn't they be figuring out why they don't match? It sounds like the problem was discovered during a completely seperate operation (perhaps updating the voter rolls?). Sheer luck and consciensciousness on sombody's part. And not only that...

What kind of problem is it that they can identify the machine it came from, and which votes were lost? I would like to know more about exactly what this problem was. And not only that...

Vote counting is supposed to be open. Candidates get to have representatives present. If they are going to count more votes, I think they should be obligated to call the candidates involved and give them a chance to observe the circumstances around the whole incident, just like they do on election day.

30. Wow. Cool, thanks.
I haven't been getting into that forum much lately.
Great job. But don't stop voting!

I think as the various groups develop paper ballot legislation language, we need to consider adding some transparency to the "corrections" process too.

But you've got more immediate issues... good luck.

20. Bill Maher on Larry King Said It Best.....
"Four times now the guy who wan the popular vote didn't win the election. OK, that's not a fluke. That's happening every 50 years or so. We really need to get our election stuff straight. Because otherwise I don't see how we can pretend to be teaching the world a lesson in democracy. And as far as the voting machines go that this question was about, I think we should get the people who make the slot machines in Las Vegas to make the voting machines so that we could count votes as well as we count nickels. Because you know, Larry, they never miss the nickel count.

KING: No, they do that right.

MAHER: In voting they always say, well, there's a recount, it comes out different every time, we can't tell you exactly how many votes. Nobody ever does that with money. They don't say in Las Vegas it's about $10,000, if it's a little more or less we don't care. Yes, when it comes to money they know how to count it.

And This about the upcoming Iraq elections.

CALLER: Yes, there was no paper trail, of course, in Ohio. But I want to ask you, do you think the elections will come off in Iraq in January, and do you think we'll hit Iran next?

KING: Two good questions.

MAHER: I don't think we'll hit Iran next because we don't have any troops left. It's not an option. We're not going to hit Korea, either. We don't have enough troops to attack Koreatown. So I don't think that's viable. As far as elections, you know, yes, I think they'll have them. What will they prove? Two months ago the Iraq National Council had elections, and four people, four vice chairs were elected. One guy was what Rumsfeld called a tool of Iran. He was a Shiite religious nut. Another guy was from the communist party. Another guy was from one of the Ba'athist groups that is sympathetic to the insurgents. So three out of the four people who were elected wanted to cut our heads off. One of them -- we got one out of four. You know, it's funny, Iraq. Things were going to get better first when we got Uday and Qusay. They didn't. Then they were going to get better, we got Saddam. They didn't. Then they were going to get better when we handed over sovereignty. They didn't.

Why do I think that elections are not going to make that big of a difference?"

33. Washington recount found some surprises, too!
One of our counties began to get organized for the first recount here (due to tight race for Governor) & one of the workers found 224 ballots in a basket that was stacked for storage. Might not seem like too big of a deal except currently, after yet another recount, the Rep (Dino Rossi) leads our Dem (Christine Gregoire) by only 42 votes.

Out of those 224, only one vote was in favor of Gregoire. Sound suspicious? Who knows, but lots of finger pointing...were they deliberately set aside by a Dem or were they conveniently planted there by a Rep? Anonymous paper (fill in the circle) ballots aren't always so safe or sure either.
