'Posh and Becks' depict Mary and Joseph; Bush, Blair are wise men

LONDON - A daring version of the Christmas nativity scene has raised a storm of controversy in London -- and not surprisingly, British football star-turned celebrity David Beckham is at the center of the holy row.

The Vatican was not amused.
“This is worse than bad taste. It is cheap,” an official Vatican source told Reuters in Rome.

“It’s a joke, but not everyone has a sense of humor," said Brazilian tourist Albert Bertii.
The 26-year-old saw the crèche as more of an offense to his political views than to Christianity. “I didn’t like George Bush as one of the three wisemen,” he said.

An Englishman from Blackpool also joked about the American president's role. “Bush hasn’t got the IQ of a hamster,” said Barry Vowell.

CLASSIC….just friggin’ Classic….

3. Why are angels depicted as clothed humans?
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 05:58 PM by TahitiNut
Angels were never human. Saints were, but angels weren't. Why clothe them? They have no reproductive organs, no breasts, no anus or urethra, and (of course) no navels. (Sheesh!) If people are going to take the Bible literally, they (fuckin' A!) should take it literally!! Appalling anthropocentric egoists!

8. Well, judging from Adam's anatomical features ...

... it's no wonder Eve was "looking for love in all the wrong places."
Michelangelo probably painted an imposter. He probably should've asked for better identification.

10. HUBBA-HUBBA!
It's "Wham, Bam, Thank you, Ma'am, then a quick exit from Paradise; back home to bumper to bumper traffic in the ol' 9 to 5 rut; mortgage payments and orthodontic bills, PTA meetings and Little League practice, car repairs and "didn't a couple shingles come off the roof in last week's thunderstorm?"

What does Eve look like in curlers, anyway?

4. Marymingo, Josephmingo, and the 3 wisemingos
My sisters nativity scene characters are dressed up plastic lawn flamingos. The Christ child is played by a glowing egg nested in straw in a manger.

the Mary ball had a blue scarf, the Joseph ball had a cigar in one of the holes, the 3 wise men had ornate fabric scarves, and baby Jesus was a croquet ball.
