Pop music icon Dick Clark hospitalized for stroke
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 — Longtime ''American Bandstand'' host and pop music producer Dick Clark has been hospitalized in the Los Angeles area after suffering a stroke, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

''He did have a minor stroke and he's in the hospital for that reason but he'll be fine,'' spokeswoman Amy Streibel told Reuters.

6. For starters, the scene in "Bowling for Columbine"
While filming his documentary Bowling for Columbine in 2002, Michael Moore approached Clark in a car. Moore questioned Clark about a former employee of his restaurant chain Dick Clark's American Bandstand, whose son had shot another child, and the possible role of Michigan's workfare program in preventing the mother from adequately supervising her son. Clark rebuffed Moore, the van door was forcibly shut and Clark was driven away.

8. That scene bothered me so much.
I admit that Moore cornered him -- but that was no excuse for how Dick Clark reacted. There were so many things he could have done that would have been better than shutting the door in MM's face.

15. With all due respect, that was an ass*ole question to ask
Clark.
As if he (or anyone else) has any idea what "workfare" in Michigan is, or how that relates to a potentially disastrous claim to his son's business.

10. I knew someone who had been an original Bandstand kid.
Clark got his job under suspicious circumstances.

Sure, they wanted someone youthful and photogenic, when they went into syndication. But to have trumped up charges against the predecessor, of messing with the little girls?

And Clark was up to his neck in payola. He was given an ultimatum by the network: either divest your interests in the recording companies and artists you play, or lose the show. He did sell his interest in the artists and companies. But some of his close friends did not get off so lightly. There were investigations, and some of them got into trouble. Some never forgave him.

He looks so youthful. He has, or had, shows on all three networks. And I believe he is a billionaire. All that for someone who knows NOTHING about music. He was an imitator as far as the music went. No cutting edge stuff there.

I don't hate him, but I think that if anyone ever made a deal with the devil, it is Clark.

16. I hope so.
I listed to Freed on WINS-NY as a teenager, with the radio under my pillow so my parents wouldn't hear late at night. I loved the "dedications" he'd do: "For Art and Joanie, going steady for 2 months…Johnny and Linda at Washington High…"

He had a real love for the music, unlike Clark.

9. Glad he is going to be OK
I never cared for American Bandstand but I love his show American Dreams (has quite a liberal slant, IMO).

17. Is this the BFEE's Revenge for "Against All Enemies?"
Oh wait, wrong "Dick Clarke."

I hated the way Condi referred to him like that, as a way to liken him to the American Bandstand host. It was like a snide attempt to de-legitimize him or confuse casual observers.

Too bad about Dick Clark. Even if he was kinda callous to Michael Moore in BFC, strokes suck. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
