California to sue over federal abortion funding ban
California to sue over federal abortion funding ban

By Don Thompson
ASSOCIATED PRESS
1:31 p.m. December 8, 2004

SACRAMENTO – California's attorney general said Wednesday he will sue the federal government to block a congressional restriction that could stall federal funds if the state enforces its abortion rights laws.

Rep. David Weldon, R-Fla., inserted the provision into a $388 billion spending bill last month. It would block any of the money from going to state, federal or local government agencies that punish health care providers and insurers because they don't provide abortions, make abortion referrals or cover them.
(snip)

But Attorney General Bill Lockyer said California could be among the most affected because it has some of the most sweeping laws protecting women's right to an abortion, along with a privacy guarantee written into the state Constitution. One state law, for instance, bars hospitals from refusing to perform abortions for women in emergency or life-threatening situations.

Lockyer called the provision "an unacceptable attack on women's rights and state sovereignty, and a backdoor attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade."
(snip/...)

3. Look what the sneaky Repukes are attempting
now, cutting off more needed funding to the State due to their "faith based" beliefs. They can't overturn Roe vs. Wade, and even if they did too many people would not stand for it.

Fuck their fascist control.

5. Oh, Attorney General, you're my hero for this.
I would love to help. This Californian just wants her Blue state to stay blue, in every way.

Maybe we should set up a fund to get California Rethuglicans to move to another state.

My daughter knows him pretty well and is thrilled at the prospect that he may run for governor.

Thank you, Bill! We're with you all the way!

13. We know about that.
He made a last minute decision that he felt was a worthwhile risk. He regrets it.

Never forgiving someone for an honest error in judgment is pretty harsh, especially when that someone has a long track record of doing the right thing. Don't you think so?

15. I do so hope that he runs
and gets the governator out of office in 2006. I can't stand his ass.
I will NOT forgive Schwarzenneger for campaigning for *, someone that so obviously doesn't give a damn about California or our interests.

He must GO.

16. Damn fascist neocons...
now they want to take away a woman's right to choose.

They are chipping away woman's rights and we can't let this happen. Women fought too long and too hard for these rights many take for granted now.

GO BILL!
