US minimizes differences with Russia after OSCE clash

Wed Dec 8, 3:17 AM ET World - AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US State Department moved to minimize differences with Russia over Ukraine and Iraq (news - web sites), saying that relations between Washington and Moscow were "outstanding" after the two countries clashed at the OSCE (news - web sites) international security body over the issues with Cold War-style rhetoric.

"The United States and Russia have an outstanding relationship," said State Department spokesman Adam Ereli, pointing out that these relations were "broad, complex, intricate."

He said US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin (news - web sites), "can find common understanding and cooperation on a whole host of matters, whether it be arms reduction, whether it be counterproliferation, whether it be the global war on terror, whether it be other regional issues."

"There are also, as in any relationship, issues where we see things differently," Ereli continued, noting that this also was "the mark of a mature, nuanced, sophisticated relationship."

2. Isn't it odd? Before reading this, I would have never imagined
Bush is in anyway capable of maintaining "a mature nuanced, sophisticated relationship."

He's suggesting a level of psychological strength and intelligence you'd never suspect in the guy!

What a colossal blow-hard. This is possibly one of the most ambitious whoppers I've heard yet. (Maybe he was being sarcastic!)

3. You noticed too?
The words were so ridiculous, "broad, complex, intricate", I thought he was describing some wonderful vintage of a Bordeaux wine.

Such a fool. Such fools. They believe that all it takes is creative word-juggling to pull it off.

As usual, the administration is blowing smoke.
