Afghan President: Bin Laden Is Nearby
Edited on Sun Dec-12-04 11:52 AM by Tab
KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Sunday that Osama bin Laden is "definitely" in the region and eventually will be caught, even though American and Pakistani generals admit the trail is cold.

Speculation on bin Laden's whereabouts has long focused on the mountains along the border between Afghanistan (news - web sites) and Pakistan, where the al-Qaida leader slipped away from Afghan and U.S. forces three years ago.

"It's very difficult to say where he is hiding. He cannot be away from this region. He's definitely in this region," Karzai told CNN's "Late Edition." "We will get him sooner or later, trust me on that."

Pakistan's army has mounted a series of bloody offensives against foreign fighters near the border this year, and American forces launched a winter-long operation last week against Taliban rebels on the Afghan side.

But there has been no indication they are close to seizing the suspected mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States, which prompted President Bush to launch Operation Enduring Freedom with an assault on Afghanistan.

4. what bullshit...
Why are we listening to these ex-Unocal official who was buddy buddy with President Bush as a corporate ally, and was later rewarded by being appointed President of Afghanistan...on whether or not Bin Laden is around...

I'll rather listen to the disinterested experts in the intelligence agencies...rather than some trained monkey who is the Mayor of Kabul.

6. When we find Bin Laden will the terror stop??

Don't think so, OBL got more than he ever wished for.
Bush played right into his hands.

He does not have to fight us anymore.

His foot soldiers all over the world are killing our children, putting us on red alert and breaking our economy .

8. Maybe yes maybe no
Considering that Karsai cannot even leave Kabul with any degree of safety, and considering also that Bush doesnt seem to care one way or the other about bin Laden (though I think he desperately needs Osama to remain free so as to scare us with the bogeyman), who knows?

If bin Laden should fall there will be another to pick up his torch.

13. As of 3/02, * didn't care. So I don't care if the bogeyman comes to
play Flight Simulator 2005. I'm only doing what our leader does. Follow thy leader.

:eyes:

"Enduring freedom"? meaning freedom will go on and survive this? OR meaning we have to endure *'s idea of freedom, which is no freedom unless you're a multi-national corporate exec?
