NYT: Troubles of Kerik, Ex-Nominee (NYC knows real Rudy, Kerik)
The Troubles of Mr. Kerik, Ex-Nominee
By JOYCE PURNICK

Published: December 13, 2004

WHAT was Bernard Kerik thinking?

That's what most of the country must have wondered as they watched the former police commissioner implode. With his vulnerabilities so obvious, how could he allow the president to nominate him as secretary of homeland security, and how could he assume he'd be confirmed?
New Yorkers might have told their fellow citizens what he was thinking. They had seen it all before. Mr. Kerik was acting as a graduate of the willful Giuliani administration, which ruled New York pretty much as it wanted to.

Most of America knows the heroic Rudolph W. Giuliani, celebrated for his masterful leadership after Sept. 11. But before the terrorist attacks, Mr. Giuliani's popularity had dropped at home. Even fans had tired of his aggressive style....

***

The insular Giuliani team could be secretive, could play loose with people's rights and would even violate the law, attracting lawsuits that City Hall usually lost....

1. It appears as if Rudy is now out of favor with the Bush Cartel, for
His recommendation of Kerik

THE MAYOR
Strain Is Seen in Giuliani Ties With President
By ELISABETH BUMILLER and ERIC LIPTON

WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 - Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani had a Christmas dinner at the White House on Sunday night, and he attended with an important goal in mind: to apologize to his host for pushing Bernard B. Kerik as homeland security secretary and then watching as Mr. Kerik's nomination collapsed in legal problems and embarrassed the president of the United States.

That embarrassment has put a new strain on a mutually beneficial relationship that has always been more complicated than mere friendship.

3. Rudy was never known for his morals
He wanted his wife kicked out of the official residence so his girlfriend could move in. Sigh....and some think the GOP is the party of family values.

2. None of my NYC friends trust Rudi or Kerik...I'm no New Yorker, but it
did not take a New Yorker to see that Kerik was a trainwreck waiting to happen (or actually, was a trainwreck that had happened and we just needed photos)...

Giuliani should take this as a warning to his political aspirations and stay home....The former Mayor should just keep to himself and make his money doing his speaking rounds to the right wing faithful, but if he ever tries to run for the highest office in the land, he'll go down Bernie Kerik style....

Watch Rudi start doing a Bush move similar to Bush's response on Kenneth Lay - "Bernie Who?"

6. Rudy will stick beside Kerik
Kerik has the goods on him and they probably both have some nice tidbits on Bush. Bush had to nominate Kerik and I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of the plan to take Rudy down a few notches-- Bush doesn't like anybody being more popular than him.

7. Us NY'ers were not taken by them as the rest of the country seemed...
to be after 911. Americas mayor and all that stuff. Rudy did what he should have but his record prior to that was pretty bleak. We knew their track record, watched their heads swell with all the attention. The best was Bernie going to Iraq, he got the hell out of dodge pretty quick when he saw how bad things were. Yup most people were duped by them.

10. Bush has always been jealous of having to share the 9/11
limelight with Rudy. Wonder if okaying Kerik was a way of reminding Amerikans that Rudy was not "moral values."
