Spokeswoman: Giuliani Apologized to Bush
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&ncid=703&e=2&u=/ap/20041213/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_giuliani

Former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani, at a preplanned dinner with President Bush (news - web sites), offered apologies for the abortive nomination of close associate Bernard Kerik as homeland security secretary, a Giuliani spokeswoman said.

Kerik, who was Giuliani's police commissioner and more recently a business associate, asked Bush to withdraw his nomination late Friday following questions about an immigration problem involving a family housekeeper.

Giuliani spokeswoman Sunny Mindel said in New York that the White House dinner Sunday had been planned several weeks ago. "The president was very gracious," she said. "They remain good friends."

-snip-

White House spokeswoman Suzy DeFrancis said she could not comment on whether the two also had dinner.

9. Josh Marshall is offering a prize
A TPM T-shirt for the first reader to send in a clip of Rudy saying how he really never knew Kerik all that well.

3. It's Bush's fault for not reading the 9/11 report
Didn't Kerik get slammed by even the most Republican of 9/11 committee members for his poor coordination on 9/11?

4. Bush isn't "into" reading
So says Dick Clarke ("Against All Enemies" author); he gets people to brief him on what newspapers say.

So forget about him reading the 9/11 report....

7. Too funny. Rove screws Ghoulani, and Ghoulani apologizes
There is no doubt in my mind Rove set up Ghoulani.

Rove knew about Kerik's problems, he had to because there were too many of them. Some which were public.

Rove let Ghoulani suggest Kerik, knowing full well Kerik wouldn't pass muster once his sorid past was revealed. This way, Rove can discredit Ghoulani and get him out of the way.

Another example of how Rove will do anything to get his way.

10. Does Rove not want Giuliani to run in 2008?
I didn't realize Rudy was a threat to Chimpy. Not that I'm shedding any tears over Rudy's embarrassment. BTW, if this was a Rove setup, Rudy looks pretty dumb falling into his trap.

11. Ghoulani is a moderate and fails the family values test
And Rove is an extreme rightwing fascist.

Naturally Rove wants Ghoulani to fail.

Ghoulani isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier. I mean, look at the way he handled the situation with his mistress.

13. bushco probably wants Jeb to run in 2008, not Rudy
I would guess that Rudy is not considered one of "our kind of people" by the bushes. Never underestimate the bush family's bigotry. They are social snobs from way back. They'll use anyone, but invite an Italian Catholic into their inner circle? Help him win high office? No way.

Just another example of how bushco has fooled so many people into thinking that they are the exact opposite of what they really are:

Thugs.

16. Rudy made the recommendation, but Bush made the acutal appointment
Once again, the media lets him off the hook. Once again, Bush is the innocent victim of incompetents, sychopants, and schemers. Didn't the Bush White House do their OWN investigation--or did they do their own investigation and decided his was dishonest enough to qualify? And why has Rudy decided to take him back as an employee? Did he get the appointment as a reward for giving Bush the NYPD union endorsement? Does HE have something on THEM???
