WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- U.S. greenhouse gas emissions increased by 0.7 percent in 2003, to 6.94 billion metric tons carbon dioxide equivalent from 6.89 billion tons in 2002, according to a report from the Department of Energy released Monday. The 2003 increase, however, is below the 3 percent rate of economic growth and below the average annual one percent growth rate in emissions since 1990, the report said. Emissions of carbon dioxide and methane, which are produced from burning fossil fuels such as coal to generate electricity and are believed to contribute to global warming, increased by 0.8 and 0.5 percent respectively.

...very short newsblurb...

:wow: Look at the "Clean Skies Initiative" at work!

2. Yes, but it's less than the rate of economic growth!!!!
You see, using the unique new approach to GHG controls, we get to emit all the emissions we want, as long as the amount of emissions per unit of GDP drops over time.

Now, even the White House admits that this will amount to a net increase of, oh, say, 15% or so above 1990 levels in raw tonnage of actual GHG production . . . .

But hey! Less GHG will enter the atmosphere per unit of GDP! It's a unique new approach, which is really hard work. I know how hard it is!! :eyes:
