White House defends clearance process after aborted Kerik nomination
WHITE HOUSE The White House says it's still confident of the way it screens its Cabinet nominees, despite the aborted nomination of Bernard Kerik to be homeland security chief.

Kerik withdrew his name Friday after informing the White House he did not pay required taxes for his family's nanny, and that she may have been in the country illegally.

However, Press Secretary Scott McClellan says Kerik admits the fault was his for not informing White House officials sooner. And the spokesman insisted the vetting process is thorough and effective.

Pressed as to how questions about the ex-New York police commissioner's background could have fallen through the cracks, McClellan insisted President Bush is "looking forward" -- and considers the Kerik matter "closed."

Obviously not, look who's in the White House.

What a bunch of disgusting scumbags.

I don't know who that applies more to- this "administration" or the people who voted for it.

5. The real reason he withdrew
is that they found out he hadn't broken enough laws to qualify for a position in the * administration. ;)

9. So, their "vetting process" consists of
asking the potential nominee if they've ever done anything wrong?

Sort of sounds like the MSM's "investigative journalism".

"But, but, why would politicians have any reason to lie????"

Disgusting...

21. Welcome, and yes.
Then, after the nominee says he's clean, they say, "okay." If he says he's not, they say, "double okay, you're just like the chimp."

13. None of us is safe with chimpy in the white house
I firmly believe that if Gore had been sworn in as president, as he was elected to be by the will and votes of the people, then 9/11 would never have happened.

Gore would have listened to the outgoing Clinton staff who told chimpy's staff that al Quada had attacked the U.S.S. Cole. Gore would have attacked Afghanistan (in the face of bitter complaints from Republicans) and probably captured OBL.

We would not be in Iraq. The world would not be angry with us. OBL would be in jail or dead. Tens of thousands of Americans and untold numbers of Iraqis and Afghanis would not be dead or maimed.

Do I feel safer? Hell no.
