Mahmoud Abbas: The Palestinian Uprising must end...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6701985/

So what does he recommend....Ghandi like MASS civil disobedience?

I'm all for an end to the violence, but I would demand that Palestinians initiate mass "marches" into the Israeli territory...and be willing to be bashed and repulsed by the Israeli soldiers...that would start turning the public opinion against Israel.

But, just staying oppressed is not an option...Abbas needs to substitute MASSIVE civil disobedience/obstruction for violent resistance.

1. mass civil disobedience might have worked by now.
had it been applied instead of terror, there MIGHT be a free palestine.

so why not give it a shot?

5. Why Didn't It Work During the 80s?
The intifada didn't start until the early 90s. What gains did the Palestinians make?

The West Bank is an Indian reservation. Or perhaps a South African statelet like Lesotho. Prospects for Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza is no better -- in fact, it's much worse -- unless they struggle.

I just think Palestinians should select military rather than civilian targets, with the possible exception of settlers taking over confiscated Palestinian land.

3. "just staying oppressed is not an option" - OTTOMAN history does
not record many mass marches in the west bank or Gaza as I recall.

Why the hurry to take to the streets?

7. Why is violence the answer?
will the israeli gov. negociate with the palenstinians in good faith, without the threat of suicide bombers? It seems as though they were, until arafat blew off the peace talks.

8. Hey, it started with protest, then stone throwing to which the Israelis
responsed with guns and aerial bombings. Come again?
