NM Gov. gives recount group 15 hours to raise $1.4 M for recount
Bill Richardson, the Democratic Governor and the 2004 chair of the Democratic National Convention held in Boston last summer, has given Green Party candidate, David Cobb, and Libertarian candidate, Michael Badnarik, along with the Help America Recount Fund, fifteen hours to raise $1.4 million for a recount in New Mexico.

The three New Mexico state Canvassing Board members which include Richardson, Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron and state Supreme Court Justice Petra Maes made the decision at their five o'clock meeting today (Tuesday) in Santa Fe. They told the recount group that they had to come up with the money by eight o'clock tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

Even though the recount in New Mexico will have no bearing on the outcome of the Presidential election, the organization wanted to do a recount in the state because of the variety of voting machines and paper ballots that are used. The state would be used as a "lab" and the information gathered would be studied and incorporated into the strategies for future elections.

A deposit of $114,000 has already been made to the Secretary of State for the recount. Initially, the state indicated that the recount would cost $600,000.

The Help America Recount Fund is also conducting the recount in Ohio.

12. Help America Recount Fund website and more
Thanks for the suggestion. The Help America Recount Fund website is:

http://helpamericarecount.org/

Another piece of information:

In 2000, the Governor of NM was Gary Johnson, a Republican. Gore won NM by 366 votes making us a blue state.

In 2004, the Governor of NM is Bill Richardon, a Democrat. Kerry lost by about 6000 votes making us a red state now.

And Richardson has been fighting this recount every step of the way.

21. Just because they stole the election doesn't mean they
will be fair with the recounts. We have to expect anything from these @ssholes.

3. New Mexico Recount
Looks like the State Of N.M. does not want a recount. What gives?? More of the same. Let's just get on with it and ignore the whole thing? Where is the fix and why?

4. Scratch Richardson for VP or anything else in the future.

These leaders are a pathetic lot. Not a single "prominent" Democrat has gotten on board.

How about that, we're getting totally screwed by our own.

I'm shocked, just shocked. :puke:

On edit/reflection: Now I know why Sen. Byrd just reemed this guy over the DOE security problem(s). He's not worthy!

15. GOP Lite strikes again
Its becoming painfully clear why Democrats are failing: the main leadership is becoming a branch of the GOP.

Here is a conspiracy theory for all at DU: try to find money and/or favors between the DNC and RNC. See if this is even a remote possibility. The continual effort do derail recounts and such by Dems is getting a little too obvious.

If we really need to move on, Bush is not the answer (more of the same).

7. "We need to move forward." er. Move On, er Get Over It
Thanks for the ABCJournal.Com link. Here is our fearless leader:

"I don't think a recount will reform our election laws. We don't need any more lawsuits. We need to move forward," Richardson said.

Our rhetoric is getting as empty as theirs. How about "We need to 'stand up' a new electoral system." "The chatter is intense." Bla bla bla.

This is the big one. They think they can shoo us away. They are wrong. Nobody is leaving the country, nobody awake will go back to sleep, many of those awake will rouse the sleepers.

Thanks Bill, you showed us your true colors.

16. He doesn't have an intersest in the outcome-- yeah right!
I know a bunch of people are saying that he's thrown away his reputation on this, but think about it. If Kerry isn't President going into 2008, he gets to throw his hat into the ring. Not helping Kerry helps him.

I also know that he's going to come across as one of those "appeasing" DINOs that we all hate, but in his mind -- that's probably a plus.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm PISSED about this. I'm just stating the obvious.

17. used to live in NM years back
and I thought Richardson was an OK guy. Someone must really be putting the screws on him and the other high profile but suspiciously quiet Dems...

I guess this is the "then they fight" phase of Ghandi's quote?

20. Renews my doubts about Richardson
His wife, a very good person, lives in her home area and comes to NM when needed.
Richardson mistress lives in Las Cruces (why he needed a new plane?).
