Iran, Syria Said Backed Terrorists in Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041215/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq

<snip>

Concerns have been raised over rising Iranian influence in the political future of Iraq, where the majority Shiites are expected to dominate elections scheduled for Jan. 30. Campaigning for the vote began Wednesday.

Hazem Shaalann, who has previously accused Tehran of interfering in Iraq's affairs, said that Iranian and Syrian intelligence agents, plus former operatives from Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s security forces, are cooperating with the deadly al-Qaida in Iraq group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi "to run criminal operations in Iraq."

The Jordanian-born militant's group is believed to be leading a brutal campaign of hostage-takings, beheadings and bombings that victimize both Americans and Iraqis. U.S. officials have offered a $25 million bounty for al-Zarqawi.

Iran and Syria have rejected U.S. and Iraqi claims that they are supporting insurgents in Iraq. Damascus, however, has said it is unable to fully close its long, porous border with Iraq.

1. Up the "Iran = evildoer" rhetoric before the Shia win Iraq "elections".
As the Shia are aligned with Iran and will certainly win any election in Iraq, bushCo are already setting up their excuse for lack of democracy in Iraq -the last excuse they have, and a shitty one as it is- and for future invasion & occupation of Iran. Hah good luck with that one, America.

21. That's the point
You can bet your ass this story is fabricated. I was trying to be sarcastic about the fact that the U.S. is drumming up false accusations just like the months preceding the Iraq invasion.

4. We are belligerents trying to conquer a country
And we whine because the people in the region aren't playing fair.

Anyone who knows even the slightest information about the history of the region could have predicted this.

6. Al-Z, aka OBL II , aka OBL I, aka Emmanuel Goldstein II.
The beheadings are suspect, the militant group and its leader are suspect, MSM is suspect, etc.

The only thing we should be certain is that BushCo will continue to lie about everything, and wants the world, or at least the entire ME, to reach Armageddon in two years time.

7. more rhetoric amounting to nothing
they just don't give up do they ? i think they are simply unwilling to accept that the iraqi population itself is unwilling to accept bush-brand 'democracy' at the point of a gun. (and what nation has EVER accepted a foreign occupation)

9. how terrible
and how surprising: that the people of Iran and Syria would travel half way around the world to interfere with a country on our border that they have no ethnic, cultural or religious connection to. They are obviously just coming here for our oil.

10. True , there's a lot of oil here, mostly
in our salty starchy deep fat fried crap food diets, and in the bodies of the longpigs that consume vast quantities.

And under the Humvees in our driveways, and in the snake oil sold by the fascists and their chief accomplice, MSM.

11. The people of Iran & Syria
are willing to risk death for the mere opportunity to live the American life-style. Most of the insurgents in Iraq are only angry that McDonald's haven't been placed in their mosques. If we put a few Wal-Marts here, and a gambling casino there, the hostilities would stop overnight.

14. Cornwallis sent a message back to the King
Dear King George,

Our mission to quell the rebellion in these American colonies is going perfectly according to plan. Our leadership is excellent and the troops are in good spirits.

We'd have the mission complete if the darn French would stop meddling.

15. (Maariv) US mulling military options against Syria
A fresh round of dick-waving at Iran/Syria in progress.

Despite recent Syrian overtures towards Israel. Intelligence information confirms Damascus is continuing to actively aid and abet Iraqi insurgency.

Washington is reassessing its policy towards Syria, in light of increasing evidence that President Assad has no intention of keeping his promises to the US to stop cooperating with the Iraqi Sunni insurgency.

A senior intelligence source has confirmed that the administration is currently conducting discussions over Syria at senior levels. These discussions are not only limited to the policy itself, but include possible operational scenarios in the event it is decided to change US policy.

The main debate is whether any US military strike should be confined to a few targets, destruction of which would inflict enough pain on Bashar Assad and his regime to prompt them to rein in the anti-US forces operating from Syria, or whether a broad military campaign aimed at regime change would be preferable.

16. Iran and Syria, huh? Coincidence? I think not
Allawi has proven lately to have more of a backbone and might have decided to no longer be the puppet to Rummy's puppeteer. So, they had to recruit a new guy to do their bidding. How convenient, with their hands up his butt, he chose to highlight our new two victims in our "war on terra."
