Cheney: Economy Needs Permanent Tax Cuts
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20041215/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_economic_conference

Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday that it is critical to make President Bush's tax cuts permanent during his second term, while achieving broader reforms in the tax code and bolstering Social Security.

Speaking at the start of a two-day White House conference on the economy, Cheney said the administration would put a top priority on making the tax cuts, which are all due to expire after 2010, permanent as a way of bolstering future economic growth.

Cheney said the administration had accomplished a great deal in its first term but a number of unfinished items remain for Congress to address.

"We still have more work to do, but we believe we are on the right track," Cheney told the audience of business leaders, economists and Washington lobbyists.

and how has it helped the economy? What it has done is leave a legacy of debt for our children which will ultimatly lead to higher interest rates.

9. Don't you worry about it...
Still plenty of wealth in poor/middle class hands that needs to be redistributed into the "right" (rich) hands.

And the added bonus, of course...once they're broke, they become the perfect military fodder!

which will run up more debt, privatize social security which will bankrupt the system, cut more taxes for the wealthy, raise salaries for their cronies, remove all regulation from big business, remove all environmental protections, threaten the rest of the world, gut the Constitution...It's haaaard work. And the repubs will still want roads, bridges, airports, buildings named after this idiot.

do you? Let's see, why not take that particular issue up with the asshole who dreamt that tax method up? Mr. Tickle-on II himself, aka Commander Bunnypants. But surely it his not his fault that you are not part of the ownership class Ed, must be something lacking on your part. Why surely you must have what it takes to become a self-made man in the same image as King Georgie Boy.

Until you make it, Ed, keep repeating your inane comments to yourself over and over again, and if you forget a word or two of the litany, turn on Fox News to get your daily propaganda fix.

Here let me help, Ed - "deficits don't matter...grow the economy...jobs are increasing...government paid health-care is socialism"...

Now fuck-off and get back to work...and quit your whining...

28. Hey Ed Cl Finley, I wonder what %tax rate Bush and Cheney paid last year
It's strange how you mentioned Teresa Heinz but not Bush or Cheney. You have to give Mrs Kerry credit and Bill Clinton and Al Gore and other rich Democrats, at least they were willing to take same of the financial burden off of the middle and low income people and pay more in taxes themselves in order to do this, but Bush and Cheney and other rich Republicans had rather take from the poor and give to the rich (And these Republicans call themselves compassionate, they are disgusting)

32. Bad logic. She should've paid more.
Why shouldn't she pay 30% or 40%? It's not like she can't afford it. Then maybe 42,000,000 Americans wouldn't have to go without Health Insurance...

PS~ I'm assuming your 16% is legit.

I think what they mean is to take out the provision that the tax cuts will expire in 2010, so even if they do succeed in doing this, it can always be put back in there when we take back control :D

52.  Well, I'll agree with the big Dick on this....
IF we pass tax cuts, they OUGHT to be permanent (in terms of not self-terminating) and shouldn't be any of this gradual increase, phase in bull shit.

Dick and Bush are actually right on something... it does make it difficult to plan, and as an economic matter, are really counterproductive.

The thing that chaps my ass, though, is that they broke it, they bought it. The reason why these cuts sunset is because they were so expensive in the out years, they couldn't pay for them. Because they weren't offsetting in the out years, they wouldn't have complied with Senate rules. So, the price they paid for having these damn cuts is the sunset.

In addition, we haven't even seen the really big cuts yet. Amazingly enough, the really big cuts come first in 2004 (election year) but then in 2008 and 2009--after Bush's second term. Delay the big cuts, delay the pain, delay having to take some fucking responsibility for the mess you're creating. But hey, I can say today, I gave you marriage penalty relief, I got rid of the dreaded death tax blah blah blah, but I won't be around when the real shit hits the fan.

Assholes.

53. Quoting John Fiske
..."It is now time to observe that robbery may be committed by governments as well as by individuals. If the business of governing is placed in the hands of men who have an imperfect sense of their duty toward the public, if such men raise money by taxation and then spend it on their own pleasure, or to increase their political influence, or for other illegitimate purposes, it is really robbery, just as much as if these men were to stand with pistols by the roadside and empty the wallets of people passing by. They make a dishonest use of their high position as members of government, and extort money for which they make no return in the shape of services to the public."...
