Oklahoma voters angry about Nativity removal help defeat bond issues
Oklahoma voters angry about Nativity removal help defeat bond issues
December 15, 2004 6:49 PM

MUSTANG, Okla.
A superintendent's decision to remove a Nativity scene from an elementary school Christmas program has proven costly.

Angry voters in Mustang, Oklahoma, took out their frustration at the ballot box, defeating nearly eleven million dollars in bond measures for the school district.

Some of the money would have paid for the construction of a new elementary school.

The superintendent says the decision was very difficult -- but adds that he was concerned about the separation of church and state.

2. Christain fundies hate EVERYONE, even themselves.
These people are far more dangerous then Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda could take some of our lives but they can't take our freedom. The Christian fundies however, can and will, take our freedom if they are not stopped.

24. THEY ARE SCUM & NEO-NAZIS (THIS IS HOW THEY DO IT)

http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/thumb.htm

A peasant mother returning from field-work, with her three children, pauses before a way-side Christ. The mother talks to them about the wickedness of the Jews.

"She points to the Cross, which stands by the road:

" 'Children, look there! The Man who hangs on the Cross was one of the greatest enemies of the Jews of all time. He knew the Jews in all their corruption and meanness. Once He drove the Jews out with a whip, because they were carrying on their money-dealings in the Church. He called the Jews: killers of men from the beginning. By that He meant that the Jews in all times have been murderers. He said further to the Jews: Your father is the Devil! Do you know, children, what that means? It means that the Jews descend from the Devil. And because they descend from the Devil they can but live like devils. So they commit one crime after another.'

3. It would be nice to know if voters

really voted down the bond because of the banned Nativity play or if they were already opposing the measure for other reasons. School bonds and other tax increases often lose at the polls.

13. Bonds rarely are voted down
where I live - in Florida. If they have anything to do with schools or the environment, or any other thing to improve lifestyle, they nearly always pass, but I live in a blue county.

5. God Damn! Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
I guess they showed that superintendent... and school corporation desperate for funds... and children... Oh well, it's not like fundies were ever big on school in the first place.

So the parents voted down school bonds as retaliation?!

Hey geniuses, when the schools don't have enough money, it's your kids that suffer for it, not the superintendent.

27. which brings us to Aesop's story of The Dog in the Manger....
A dog, ignoring many suitable and convenient piles of straw, climbed into an ox's manger, and insisted upon bedding down in the hay. When the ox came into the barn, he couldn't eat the hay, because the growling, snapping dog wouldn't budge. And he could scarcely eat the straw, because straw makes poor food.

So the ox went hungry on the dog's selfish whim.

Looks as though the school children are the ox, and their own idiot parents are the dog.

14. Here in Alabama we had a similar case a while back
Although it had a twist.

A nearby county was having a school bond issue vote and the electorate was fairly split on it. A black school administrator got passed over for a prestigious principal's job and made a big issue out of it. He urged black voters not to support the bond issue unless he got the job. Black voters supported him and made the difference in defeating the bond issue.

19. I believe he/she is referring to this from the AP story:
Some parents were angry that Santa Claus, a Christmas tree and symbols of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa were left in the production.

"If you're going to cut one symbol, then cut them all,'' said Shelly Marino, the parent of a third-grader at the elementary school. "Santa Claus was in the play and a Christmas tree was displayed, but that's not a Christian symbol.''

20. If the poster would link to the correct news report
I believe this is the school that killed the nativity play but let the other religious display remain. Rather than make bogus troll remarks why don't you read up on the facts.

Not all Democrats are anti-christian and unless you want a replay of 2004 I'd stop feeding them to the lions.

23. Here's a link to the AP version

The TV links are pretty shallow (surprise, surprise), but most of the available links to the AP story are at subscription sites.
