GOP lawmaker Collins joins Rumsfeld critics
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has joined other Republicans in criticizing Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Collins, R-Maine, fired off a tough letter Wednesday to Rumsfeld, describing his remarks about the lack of "up-armored" Humvees in war zones as "troubling."

"I am very concerned that it appears the Pentagon failed to do everything in its power to increase production" of the vehicles, Collins wrote.

"The Department of Defense still has been unable to ensure that our troops have the equipment they need to perform their mission as safely as possible."

Collins also complained that the Army requested production of an additional 100 Humvees a month only after a soldier complained about the lack of necessary armor on trucks during a December 9 town hall meeting with Rumsfeld in Kuwait.

Criticizing one of George's boys. Not like her. But I'm pleased to see it.

4. Wow, they are jumping like rats from a sinking ship.
Distance, disassociation and discredit are the key words with the in-crowd in Washington.

The writing's on the wall now.

5. Rumsfeld is not the only problem in the Pentagon
We need to get rid of all the neocons. Having a neocon like Bill Kristol call for Rummy's head is part of a strategy to keep control over the Pentagon regardless of Rummy's fate.

It's funny/pathetic to see the repugs all suddenly acting like they give a damn about the cannon fodder they call troops.....

8. Does anyone here at DU think they will replace Rummy with anyone who
is a slight bit better? Not I. Rummy sucks that is for sure. But this war crime is lost. Just because we are the richest nation in the world. And can afford to play this losing game forever. Does not mean things will get any better by replacing one of Bu$h`s rusty tools. With another one. Your team is only as good as the coach. And sorry folks but the brain damaged Bu$h is still the coach. But replacing scummy Rummy with another crummy dummy. Will only prolong the Vietnam style ending to this miserable mess. I say leave the pile of garbage where he is. Bu$h says he is doing a fine job. So even if he has to replace him because of repuke bitching. He will only replace him with someone just as bad or worse. Don`t let these maggots pass the buck anymore. I say.

9. Definitely not. Remember when they got rid of Lott?
They replaced him with Bill Frist.

Let's not kid ourselves. The Rethugs are angling for a cosmetic change. Nothing more.
