Politician Who Won't Say Pledge Of Allegiance May Be Recalled
DENVER -- A recall election is now set for an Estes Park, Colo., trustee who refuses to stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance during the Town Board meetings.

"I have not been standing for the Pledge of Allegiance due to a conflict I have with the wording of the pledge, specifically the words 'under God,'" Councilman David Habecker said.

Habecker said it's a violation of church and state to include the words in the pledge and for that reason, he won't stand.

The board began reciting the pledge before meetings earlier this year at the suggestion of Trustee Lori Jeffrey-Clark. She suggested it as a way to show respect for the country during wartime.

Goose-stepping towards fascism.

8. Apparently, there is no freedom to be silent.
Are we going to force people to recite pledges and prayers, now?

10. The goverment can't force people to say the pledge
But the voters can decide that they do not want this guy representing them because of this.

12. And, WHO made this an issue worthy of persecution?
And, why is pledging allegiance to a "thing" so important versus pledging an allegiance to representing the American people to the best of one's ability?

This is a discriminatory persecution of a person who chooses to remain silent with respect to a few words,..."under God".

Has this country gone completely bonkers?

13. The voters will decide if him reciting the pledge is important
If they do not feel that this is a valid issue, he has little to worry about.

5. This is most troubling
They will probably recall this highly principled and honest politian and elect a crooked liar to take his place.

9. My State Rep doesn't say the Pledge in the State House.
They tried to make it an issue this time but it back fired on them. She is a Mennonite and it is against her religious beliefs to pledge an oath to any flag.

11. Hard to justify taking oaths if you read the New Testament...
Per

http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/contra/oaths.html

Mt.5:34
But I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by heaven for it is God's throne; nor by the earth for it is his footstool.

Jas.5:12

But above all things, brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

As I've said before: Fundies are piss-poor Christians.

15. Fuck the pledge of allegiance. It's nothing more than state
sponsored mind control. No different than the nazis, commies or fascists pledging allegiance to thier state. It should be abolished.
