Source: Arrest made in Md. house fires

"BALTIMORE (AP) — A security guard who worked at a southern Maryland subdivision where a series of fires were set has been arrested and charged in the case, a source close to the investigation said Thursday."

"Early speculation was that the fires were set by environmentalists who believed the houses were a threat to a nearby bog. But no evidence has been found to support that theory, police said."

2. ELF?

Still smells like Earth Liberation Front to me. Why? ELF is a distributed organization... they don't have "hallmarks" or "methods", other than that their targets all tend to, at least attempt to, work towards a common cause. So... IF this security guard did it, where do his sympathies lie? Is he a closet "environmental-extremist"? Or does he just like fire, and is smart enough to understand that pawning the attack off on ELF would be the easiest way to get away with it??

There was a story a few days ago about a dispute between the developers and the security company guarding the site.

Looks like the dispute boiled over.

Maybe, instead of making one another "targets",...we ought to consider how sick it is to be one of the few species to massively destroy ourselves.

3. I think the suspect

is someone named Aaron Speed, because they got some comments from him this morning on local tv. But the evidence seems to suggest one person could not have set those fires alone.

My guess is that the suspect is one of these people who are addicted to setting fires for thrills. Every now and then there's a news story about some volunteer firefighter setting fires so they can play hero.
