RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 16 -- Osama bin Laden on Thursday declared a new phase in his campaign to topple the Saudi monarchy, urging followers to mount a peaceful revolution while also calling on Muslims not to miss a "golden and unique opportunity" to kill Americans in Iraq.

Bin Laden's call for a Saudi uprising, in a lengthy audiotape released over the Internet, represented an apparent change in tactics for the al Qaeda leader, a Saudi exile, in advocating popular change. But bin Laden added that should such tactics fail, Saudis would have no choice but to resort to a violent attack on the ruling family.

The new tape repeats bin Laden's demand for the Saudi government's overthrow but urges Saudis to take action in the manner of nonviolent revolutions elsewhere. To head off a bloody "armed uprising" by disaffected youth, bin Laden said, the Saudi elite must reform the kingdom now. Events, he warned, are heading "with unusual speed toward an explosion," according to a U.S. government translation of the tape.

"Matters have exceeded all bounds," bin Laden said, "and when the people move to ask for their rights, security agencies cannot stop them."

7. I came to the same conclusion before I read your post.
OOooohh, but wouldn't that be just too convenient for the * admin?

1) SA civil unrest. Monarchy in jeopardy.

2) The Sauds (as in, 'house of') ask US for 'help'. After all, we're right there already and all.

2a) (2) would entail quelling the civil unrest. But come now- against whom would the civil unrest be directed? Why, the ruling family, of course. And what might the best way of 'quelling' the unrest be, if we want to "learn from our mistakes" in Iraq? How would we best 'get the people on our side' in such a scenario? WE attack the ruling family and drive them out. The citizenry might go nuts for us- we would accomplish their objective, and quite honestly we might do it with a minimum of spilled blood.

Please remember, this is an administration which regards the provisions reached in the 1949 Geneva Convention, which the US ratified, as 'quaint'. We laugh and quip, but the truth of the matter is that these (all the various Conventions excepting the one in 1977) are treaties which have been ratified by our Congress and as such are, Constitutionally, the law of the land. If they are willing to do this, to so flagrantly flout both Federal and international law, then it follows quite simply that this "administration" of our Constitution must be replaced by any and all means necessary. Our Founders didn't ask for the right to do so- they simply took it. To quote:

" --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness." <--- the sentence never taught in school

3. We move in and help. take over. BING: base nation (per PNAC) #2 and a bonus of a whole lot of oil- not a drop of which we will ever see, but we have that nifty notion of "cheap gas", so that's ok, I guess.

Sorry folks, but I'm in a bitterly cynical mood tonight, so about all I have to say is buy a lot of food, water, and camping supplies, find a nice deep hole to crawl into, and hope you're one of the ones who are left to pick up the pieces and inherit the Earth.

Or what's left of it. Or something.

Amazing how well the bin Laden family has done by the House of Saud....he's showing precious little gratitude. But I have to wonder how his actions have helped the people of Iraq and Afghanistan? As the so-called mastermind of 9/11, he's managed to advance the neocon agenda of taking over the Middle East.
