Hickman school officials say silence isn't why he's bypassed

One nation, under God.

Or is it?

A substitute teacher in Hickman County claims he lost his job yesterday for raising that question.

Chris Warren is not an atheist objecting to the religion in Pledge of Allegiance. Instead, he says he wishes the planks of the pledge were upheld. Because they're not, he said, he refused to say the pledge in class.

1. And here is the "real reason" they let him go
''They've taken God out of the school. You can't say prayers in school,'' said Warren, who explained his views to students when they asked why he wasn't standing or reciting when the pledge came in over the school intercom."

He need to keep his God out of the classroom if he wants to teach the kids

2. In one sense he is right
the Pledge of Allegiance is just hollow words, on the other hand, the guy is a kook because everyone knows they are just hollow words.

3. What an idiot.
It is legal for any student or teacher if they want to pray silently to whatever god or goddess they believe in at school. Hes just got his panties in a twist because he is angry that schools are not promoting HIS version of what god is.
What a maroon.

5. 28 years in the public school system...
And I was never once reprimanded for asking students to "observe a moment of silence" over someone or some cause, not did I ever have a problem with a parent over this.

10. Moment of Silence
I live in New York. Since 9/11, the schools have a moment of silence on 9/11 FOR THE VICTIMS at the exact time of the crash. That is DIFFERENT. They say to REMEMBER the victims, not to PRAY for them.

It is totally different when a teacher asks the class to stand for a Moment of Silence every day, for no other obvious reason than to PRAY. Three years ago one teacher did that in my daughter's high school class. Daughter told me the ENTIRE class refused to stand. Yes, they stopped talking, but most were reading their books or did homework. I heard that the kids told their parents about this and the school was deluged with angry letters from the parents. The teacher was told to STOP it and she did.

6. Wonder if he'll run to that "pinko-commie loving" organization...
the ACLU? Those RWers do everything they can to vilify it except when it can help them out.

8. What weak faith religionists have in god
that they need gov't to spread the word. What weak god is it that can be removed from school with the flick of a wrist from the school board. Not only are these people evil, they are morons.
