Company suit says NFS (Nuke Fuel Services) contaminated its groundwater |

Impact Plastics Inc., Erwin (Lee Talbert / Johnson City Press)
By Ron Scalf Erwin Bureau rscalf@johnsoncitypress.com
GREENEVILLE — Nuclear Fuel Services has been sued by a neighboring industry for at least $2.5 million for allegedly contaminating its groundwater and thus reducing the value of its property and the items it sells, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.
A portion of the lawsuit involving several exhibits was placed under seal by Circuit Court Judge Jean Stanley before it was remanded to federal court.
An evidentiary hearing in the lawsuit against NFS filed by Impact Plastics and Preston Tool and Mold two years ago for allegedly contaminating their property with hazardous material is scheduled to be heard Jan. 11 in U.S. District Court.
The lawsuit was moved to the federal court from Unicoi County Circuit Court because “the damages alleged are at least $2.5 million, which is well in excess of the required statutory amount of $75,000,” the Notice of Removal says.

this require registration i think -- but it's a great example of big things happening in small places. you won't read about this in the national news b/c the area is so isolated, and the money involved is so huge. NFS has been dumping waste and "losing" plutomium for as long as anyone can remember.
