Protesters May Not Have Swearing-In Spot
WASHINGTON - The park service has given the Presidential Inaugural Committee clearance to erect bleachers along parts of Pennsylvania Avenue where an anti-war group had requested permits to stage a large-scale protest during President Bush's parade.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition had applied for permits to assemble, and in some cases build bleachers, along parts of the historic street that stretches from the Capitol to the White House.

The National Park Service has not acted on the coalition's permits.

However, angry coalition officials argued Friday that permitting the inaugural committee to build bleachers in several open spaces, such as Freedom Plaza, across from the White House, and in front of the FBI headquarters and Justice Department, prohibits the coalition from gathering in such areas to stage their large demonstrations.

1. Swearing him in
Do you solemny swear... you fucking dirt bag low life murderous
leech?

:-) We should take swearing him in to heart. I would support a
competition, with the winner to swear in a proxy-president on
commedy central. :-)

I wonder who, from what state, can make us all blanch.. a new yorker,
or a red state swearer!

Absolutely the most condemning single statement repudiation of * and his supporters I've ever seen. Even the face mosaic, the portrait of * made of chimps.... they don't come close.

This IS art. Scathing, dramatic, and beautifully executed ART.

I'm MOST impressed.

51. You're most welcome!
It is art and the website is on the top of the painting. The cast of characters are in numerical order on the artists page. The painting is disturbing and after a week of using it as wallpaper on my monitor back in Novemeber after the elction, I had to change it. It's creepy and depressing because it is so utterly realistic. The players are all caricatures of themselves, I perceived them the way they are painted before I ever saw the painting. . .

Please pass it on, though, to everyone you know and even throughout DU on message boards. It hits home and I think will prompt people to be active if they aren't already.

The swearing-in area will certainly be a no-man's land to the protester.

The strategy at last inaugural, as far as I could tell, was to keep the varying factions of demonstrators from amassing together and storming the place. Let's see what new innovations park police come up with this time.

19. 1/20/05 Begins the Brown Shirt Movement vs Protester Psy-Ops
I hope this makes sense to the many new DU-ers who are only just starting to try and understand why so many good people embrace terrible things and call it 'morality' and what to do about it.

Psychology is the most important tool for understanding how we got into this mess and why.

Left, Right, Center comprise a FALSE VOCABULARY TO CONFUSE THE ISSUE
OF KILLING PEOPLE FOR MONEY.

Some people get the scam and some don't and enable it creating a very confused American public split into
1) Those who kill people for money and hide the evidence
2) Those who don't and fight to expose the evidence

This polarity of awareness within the two main political parties alienates some who choose to sit between murder and justice and call this 'Centrism.' But denying justice is not moderation, it is STILL INJUSTICE.

"Because I don't trust the 'radical fringe' who want to either
1) throw all the Jews in the oven (right wing)
OR
2) throw none of the Jews in the oven." (left wing)

"Yes, all things in moderation. So the right answer is in the middle.See? Politics is all about...compromise.
-Compromising your values." (DLC/DNC)

The Tactic We Must Deal With Or Die:
Psy-ops culture war tactics of Orwellification-
'Weaponize the good, demonize the outraged liberals who protest this.'

This is the way the domestic culture war (psy-ops propaganda to intentionally stir people up and chill dissent) works:

Take something, like the US government, do terrible things with it.

Then, when liberals criticize the terrible things, claim they are criticizing the good part and so 'liberals must be bad.'

"They hate us for our freedom."
"They are jealous of our virtue because they are sooooo bad."
Amazingly, this really resonates in A MASTER RACE MENTALITY!

OR:

Neo-cons put a baby in hot water.
Liberals accuse them of abuse.
Neo-cons claim that 'liberals hate babies.'

Christmas has been weaponized the exact same way.

Neo-cons use religion to kill people with the New Crusades.
Liberals cite First Amendment separation of church and state.
Neo-cons claim that 'liberals hate God, Jesus, Santa, etc.'

Neo-cons use our children as troops to kill for oil.
Liberals scream bloody murder.
Neo-cons claim 'liberals hate our troops.'

That last one is the most dangerous because it will lead to a Tienanmin Square situation where our own troops will be called in to stomp on 'enemies of the state' or PROTESTERS.
http://museums.cnd.org/June4th/massacre.html
(Photos of Tienanmin Square Massacre of Protesters)

The Inaugaral parade will see Bush* literally hiding behind our troops so that the hostility of the protesters will be used to claim that liberals are against the troops 'just like the Fallujan insurgents.'

Unh-oh. Orwellification of 'save our troops from war' into 'kill our troops by not supporting the war.'

January 20, 2005 is the next big psy-op event to create a Brown Shirt movement in this heavily armed and polarized country.

SO...

Re-Orwellification OR Flipping the Polarity on Evil Back to Good:

The Master Race mentality of American Exceptionalism Saving the World and the Christian-Inanity of being the wrathful smiting 'Chosen Few' are the binary agents of American Fascism.

There's no time to back up 358 degrees to explain to the public how the democratic humanity of 'We the People' + 'All God's Children' has been perverted into American fascist 'Divine King Stomping out Satanic Infidels.'

SO FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE! CHANNEL THE PASSION FOR VENGEANCE INTO
A PASSION FOR JUSTICE! People WANT to be part of a dramatic movement in their lives which TV has turned into a movie script starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Indiana Jones, and Mel Gibson fighting evil-doers.

Fight propaganda with...PROPER-GANDA!!!
I recommend pushing forward just 2 degrees USING those so so deeply entrenched-through-propaganda attitudes with a campaign of renewed reverence for

1) The Bill of Rights and US Constitution (“Yes, America is great because of…”)
2) Jesus' teachings about caring for the poor and needy. (“…is moral because of…”)

These are the tenets of The American Revolution AND Christian values which define liberalism!! This is the ‘Just Father’ model of government that replaced the ‘Strong Father’ dictator hundreds of years ago.

I just told a Navy recruiter standing in line for lunch all about Operation Vigilant Warrior, Peak Oil, Bush/Saudi-financed terrorism etc. in a friendly way and concluded "I know people like you are trying to do the right thing but you're being given bad info."

He was friendly and seemed interested saying "Thanks, I'll go look that up when I get back to my computer." People want to do the right thing based on what they hear.

We must flip the polarity of these ideas back to caring for ALL people instead of Republican Eugenics that justifies death by both poverty and war as being necessary 'collateral damage' for the greater good of the herd.

Don't let the fascists push us back into the bloody past.
Help guide your neighbors towards the Evolving Door so they aren't part of the murder-for-profit scam. Tell them how it works and has deceived them despite their good intentions

New National Anthem

Oh say can you see
by the tvs blue light
when democracy failed
and Wall St. was scheming
the jail stripes and iron bars
left the ghettos in scars
from our sofas we watched
as the nation was screaming
And the missiles red glare
star wars nukes in the air
if you're not rich and white
then your rights are stripped bare
oh say will that blood-spattered
dollar still reign
in the land of corporate greed
and the home of the slave!

52. www.dawndc.net - 1 alternative to ANSWER
I am an organizer in DC, who was quite upset at the speculation and panic and misinformation spread by the ANSWER coalition.

We are part of a large group in DC (more than 3 dozen local organizations meeting weekly), organizing through http://www.counter-inaugural.org , and my group the DC Anti-War Network, has plans for a rally that begins at 9 AM at DC's Malcolm X Park and marches down to the White House and then to the parade route.

What angers me about ANSWER's press conference is that they said that they were the only place to be at 9 AM. They are basing this on conversations with the Park Service that the Park Service not only denies are true, but are likely not true. The 9 AM time for being on the parade route, I don't believe, is necessary at all...having been able to get front row access at 1 PM 4 years ago! And, we had extremely tight security then. People forget it was the first mass mobilization in DC after a riot. What upsets ANSWER, and rightly so, is that a private commission is getting first dibs at public space when they had permit applications for over a year ago. We in DAWN agree with that argument and support ANSWER on that claim entirely. What we don't agree with is a group that then goes out of its way to dismiss the actions of a large number of other groups and refuses to work out details so that we can have intercoordinated and friendly assurances.

I personally believe this press conference was an attempt to undercut the work of other groups, especially since they put their arbitrary 9 AM time a day after we put out our call.

DAWN is a local grassroots group. We don't have money or clout of an ANSWER. We are a speck compared to them, and that's how they'd like to keep it. We aren't seeking to be a national group, but we would like to be effective organizers with a voice and a say in how actions happen. So would a lot of other groups with a pulse on the community.

So, please be careful about believing that ANSWER is the only show in town. They said that they were, that they were the "only place to be at 9 AM". This is a lie. Don't believe them when they say you can't get on the parade route unless you get there that early. But, we encourage you to join them if that's where your heart is.

We believe in choices and have been working toward choices. I know many will lament how messy the politics of the anti-war movement is, but that's what happens when you mix a Stalinist front group like ANSWER (ANSWER is IAC is Workers World Party, which supports such regimes like North Korea's) with other groups that are left of center. Most of us believe in an open transparent process, and some believe in an authoritarian process. We have constantly invited ANSWER into our process, but they have not participated. We subsequently have not been invited and have now this week been offered this 9 AM ultimatum.

It's sad, but the positive thing is that people have a wide variety of choices. Check out http://www.counter-inaugural.org for the vast diversity and range. And, while we in DAWN hope you'll join our action, we understand that there is a lot going on and support your choice no matter what.

54. Thanks JS for telling it like it is
I didn't have all the sordid details, or I would have posted them. Although there are a few DUers who may agree with them, as is their right, I see ANSWER as far away from my politics as the neo-cons on the right. Because of this, I don't choose to protest with them or be a part of their agenda.

63. no it isn't
But, democracy is best when it's transparent...and we are working toward building that culture...and, the more you get to know the anti-war movement, you'll realize that almost everything we do is public...as opposed to what happens in the corporate world, or much worse, our government.

There was misinformation spread publicly, and it was spread by info that someone innocently posted from this listserve (and in my opinion was right to post), and so that needs to be contradicted if at all possible so that the best information is out there.

People can support ANSWER's action; I have no trouble with that. However, they should know that they did not tell the truth in their press conference and that there are other alternatives that a lot of people have also been working on.

55. That would be Mumia Abu Jamal, death row inmate since 1982
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 12:02 PM by downstairsparts
and at a cermony at Paris City Hall on 4 October 2003, solemnly declared Honorary Citizen of the City of Paris by the Gay Socialist Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë.

In the absence of the convicted murderer, Angela Davis stood at the podium and spoke of Mumia's deep sense of humanity in her flawless beautiful French. There were huge banners with his name streaming out of upstair windows on the Ile de la Cité and the Ile St. Louis for weeks after, visible from across the Seine. "LIBEREZ MUMIA," they said.

Mumia Abu Jamal is a symbol for universal justice and against the death penalty. That's why ANSWER supports him, and does not ever forget him at their rallies.

57. Why do they keep announcing their activities?
This is a strange phenomenon I keep encountering. What ever happened to the element of surprise? If protestors don't tell the police gestapo that they'll be showing up, there'll be nothing they can do about it until they realize what's happened.

Why are we complying with their regulations?

And if they come swinging at the protestors with truncheons? Let them! Let them display their terrible brutality against unarmed civilians who are doing their civic duty!

"How can one be compelled to accept slavery? I simply refuse to do the master's bidding. He may torture me, break my bones to atoms and even kill me. He will then have my dead body, not my obedience. Ultimately, therefore, it is I who am the victor and not he, for he has failed in getting me to do what he wanted done." -Mohandas K. Ghandi

69. No there doesn't!
You don't need a permit to associate and speak freely. If they throw you in jail for it, protest your rights being trampled on. More people will come out to protest your rights being trampled on. What are they going to do, arrest everyone? Arresting that many people creates an incredible amount of paper work! Then you can complain that the police aren't doing their job and fighting crime because they're arresting so many innocent people!

70. Most people not arrested for marching without permit
Most actions we do here in DC don't have permits, and there are few cases of mass arrest. One notable exception led to embarrassment for the police department here.

We were arrested illegally on August 31 for walking on the sidewalk without a permit, but that is legal so long as you are not blocking the sidewalk, which we were not. All those charges were subsequently dismissed, and class action lawsuits are pending.

Odds are that without permits you will not be arrested; however, we still try to acquire permits for some events so that we can make sure that people have a safe place to go. However, it's generally a myth that you need a permit to have a safe event...or at least, it's usually a myth.

Free speech rights are violated in numerous ways by the authorities, and people are threatened and arrested without cause. But, the exaggerated view is that this is what always happens. It may happen more often the more we don't use permits, but it doesn't happen too much here. Or, at least it depends on where you do it! There are spots they don't like, like right in front of the White House, which if you stand in the wrong spot or if you have more than 25, watch out!

It's really a mess how free speech is enforced, but it's not nearly as bad either as some think it is. You should stand up for these vanishing rights, though.

PS By the way, DAWN will have permits on January 20. They just won't be on the parade route. That's something that should be clarified.
