US threatens UN agency funds over report - writer
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L18687253.htm

CAIRO, Dec 18 (Reuters) - The lead writer of a U.N. report on freedom and governance in the Arab world said on Saturday the United States was threatening to cut off funds to a U.N. agency if the United Nations releases it.

Nader Fergani, the Egyptian social scientist who has worked on the last three Arab Human Development Reports, told Reuters defying the United States could cost the U.N. Development Programme (UNDP) about $100 million a year.

U.S. officials have denied trying to delay or suppress the report, which was originally due to come out in October. But U.N. officials said parts are being rewritten after the United States and some Arab governments asked for changes. snip

Washington is unhappy, Fergani said, with sections in the report on the U.S. occupation of Iraq and the activities of its ally Israel in the Palestinian territories.

1. Once again, more bullshit
This is a good proof that the U.S. occupation is totally criminal. I seriously hope that the people here get a chance to read this article. The Iraq war is not right. The premise, the execution, the planning, all of it.

The blackmail brings the whole scam to a new low. This is just great.

This explains why the trade deal with China and Iran, Russia and Iran, the Yukos nationalization, and other asset security moves are being put into place. The U.S. is out of control. I really am ashamed of our nation for not seeing through this heist.

3. Why don't they just move the UN to South America or the Hague?
We don't deserve to have it here. We are a renegade nation with money and military and becoming the world's biggest fascist state.

4. This clears it all up-there are no more complaints!
UNDP officials said on Thursday they had not buckled to pressure from a member state and the report was undergoing a normal editing process.

Spokesman William Orme acknowledged that both Washington and the Egyptians had raised concerns about various parts of the report. But he said both had based their comments based on early drafts of the report which had now been discarded or revised.

Now that they have "discarded or revised" the report to suit it's masters it is no longer a problem???
