Bush Vows Not to Ignore Economic Problems -radio address
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites), looking to build momentum in Congress for his second-term economic agenda, pledged Saturday not to ignore challenges to the nation's financial health and "leave them to another day."

"We have a duty to the American people to act on these issues, and we will get results," Bush said in his weekly radio address.
...
In the radio speech and at the forum, Bush and his economic team made a pitch for major second-term priorities such as overhauling Social Security (news - web sites), simplifying the tax code, making previously passed tax cuts permanent, limiting alleged lawsuit abuse and curbing the growth of government spending.

"I will work with members of both political parties to confront these problems so we can keep our economy flexible, innovative and competitive, and so America remains the best place in the world to do business," the president said Saturday. "I will not ignore these challenges and leave them to another day."
...
"Our economy has come through a lot these past four years and now our people are benefiting from solid economic growth, steady gains in new jobs, record home ownership, and rising family incomes," Bush said.

1. this moran has destroyed the US economy with his lousy
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 10:42 AM by UpInArms
fiscal policies of tax cut after tax cut - he inherited a surplus which he went through in 9 short months - he has gotten the debt ceiling raised 4 times since he took office - we are now approaching $8 Trillion in debt and he has looted the treasury to squander our money on star toys and war.

Have I said how much I hate this mal-administration lately?

The estimated population of the United States is 295,088,680
so each citizen's share of this debt is $25,692.82.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of
$2.56 billion per day since September 30, 2004

20. But, but, those tax cuts helped us to avoid a depression - Beezlebush
says so!

http://cbs.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?dist=google,%20¶m=archive&siteid=google&guid=%7B43089488%2D9D16%2D4F93%2DB0FE%2DC056BEEBC889%7D&garden=&minisite=

snip>

Bush referred to protectionist policies of 70 years ago and said tax cuts passed by his administration over the last four years helped the U.S. economy avoid a more severe recession.

"If I might toot our horn a little bit, one of my predecessors raised taxes and implemented protectionist policies in the face of an economic downturn, and as a result, there was 10 years of depression," Bush said.

"We chose a different path, given a recession. We cut taxes and worked to open up markets. And as you said, the recession was one of the shallowest," the president added.

<end snip

Yep, and the little idiot has only put off the inevitable with that BS move, and the price we will pay when it all crumbles down will be much worse than a normal, cyclical recession. I think the '30s will look like a cakewalk in comparison. Oh yeah, and don't forget these idiots usually chime the mantra, "war is good for the economy".

6. I'm sure he won't ignore them....................
he'll do everything in his power to hasten the country's financial demise. That's the PNAC agenda; bankrupt the country and start over without any of those pesky, money draining entitlements like Social Security, Medicare, a minimum wage.......all of those programs take money away from the rich. God knows they can barely make ends meet as it is. I heard that one PNACer had to settle for a lousy 80 foot yacht, he just couldn't swing the 120 footer even with the Resident's tax breaks. Shocking! :wow: How do these poor rich people find the courage to carry on?

Even heard one freeper admit that...he said that the poor and middle class are lazy slobs and the country needs to be rid of them ASAP (aside from enough maids and shoe shiners to serve them)

or they would practice his philosophy of taking care of the poor and needy. They have completely negated Christ's Golden Rule.

7. "Bush Vows Not to Ignore Economic Problems"
No, he won't ignore them; he's dedicated to making them worse. He & his best buds will try to make sure every last non-CEO American job is offshored (sent to another country) or inshored (bring in immigrants to take Americans' jobs).

9. Was Rome like this?
I'm trying to figure out where we are on the Roman Empire Timeline.

As concerned citizens stand by and watch, The Emperor Nero fiddles while Rome burns.

The Empire, damaged by extensive pillaging and its tax coffers running low, is showing the signs of strain. Like an overloaded ship, it starts to sag lower and lower until the crew is alarmed.

Local citizens try to do the best with what they have. They suspect their leadership is the cause of it and wonder what to do next.

15. more like the Spanish empire in the 1700's--even with the profligate wars!
watch for the colonies and neocolonies to skive off (Asian Cooperative, anyone?) and the U.S. to jump into a period of moderation (in modern terms, unsullied liberalism) with maybe a period of consolidation and autocracy shortly after.

18. Thanks MP, for
your knowledge of history. I'll start researching the Spanish empire. I'm serious about wanting to know what is a reasonable outcome of our Foolish Adventures. If I can find a similar 'regime' in the past that matches what our Stupid Administration is doing, we may be able to anticipate what comes next.

I just have this uncanny feeling that we've been here before. There's nothing new about this Administration of Clowns. It's been tried before, with similar results.

25. We're somewhere around Diocletian's time
Things are really sliding into the crapper, but martial law hasn't yet been enforced to at least slow down the collapse. We're at about 260 AD at the moment.

24. In another words, Amerika, we will continue to include permanent tax cuts
for the elite wealthiest, write legislature to give even bigger tax cuts to companies that outsource American jobs, and just for good measure, we'll go ahead and invade Iran, okay? Because by then, Amerika, you'll be so starved, you'd be willing to join the US military just to get a decent meal and shelter. How's that, Amerika!
