Poll: Seniors Support Medical Marijuana (Nearly three-fourths)

WASHINGTON - Nearly three-fourths of older Americans support legalizing marijuana for medical use, according to a poll done for the nation's largest advocacy group for seniors.

More than half of those questioned said they believe marijuana has medical benefits, while a larger majority agreed the drug is addictive.

AARP, with 35 million members, says it has no political position on medical marijuana and that its local branches have not chosen sides in the scores of state ballot initiatives on the issue in recent elections.

But with medical marijuana at the center of a Supreme Court case to be decided next year, and nearly a dozen states with medical marijuana laws on their books, AARP decided to study the issue.

1. I strongly support it
It works in many cases, especially in cases of dying patients, where other medicines do not or where the other treatments have horrible side effects. Pot doesn't worry me so much. There would have to be regulations in place, but I have no problem with medical maryjane.

2. I agree. When you're slowly checking out from this world...
...and often in intense pain, who has the right to deny you comfront during your final days? Particularly when you're just using a plant that nature (or the "intelligent designer") put here?

When will these ignorant, neo-con Fascists realize that we are mere specks of dust in the greater scheme of things?

3. Their TRUE main objection IS the F.D.A. can't make money off M.J.
The true sadness about this is that the more comes out about pain relievers (particularly anti-arthritics which Elderly rely on), the less will be available to treat even the most basic pain to aging.

4. A geezer, myself..........
Twice I have been directed to a certain "Dr. Pot" that helps old-timers ease what ails 'em. Just the beginning of a new dawn as we baby boomers start to feel the power of our numbers.
Witness the cover of December's AARP Bulletin. In bold print, it reads "Dr. Mr. President: FIX IT!"
