Chicago GI faces court-martial over Iraqi's fatal shooting
http://www.suntimes.com/output/iraq/cst-nws-charged18.html

BERLIN -- An Army officer from Chicago was arraigned Friday on charges of dereliction of duty and assault with intent to commit murder in the killing of a critically wounded Iraqi, a military spokesman said. snip

The charges stem from a May 21 incident when Maynulet was leading his tank company on a patrol near the city of Kufa.

They encountered a sedan thought to be carrying a driver for Muqtada al-Sadr and another militiaman loyal to the radical cleric. U.S. soldiers chased the vehicle and fired at it, wounding both the driver and passenger.

When a medic pulled the driver out of the car, it was clear he had suffered critical injuries, according to testimony heard during Maynulet's Article 32 hearing.

First Lt. Colin Cremin, testified Maynulet told him he then shot the Iraqi in the base of the neck or the back of the head. ''It was something he didn't want to do, but it was the compassionate response,'' Cremin testified. ''It was definitely the humane response.'' AP

1. Our men and women should not be placed in such circumstances.
The only solution is to bring our troops home. Until then, we need to hold judgment until all the facts are know when sad events like this occur. Whether found guilty or not, the Lt. must live with the memory of that tragedy for the rest of his life.
:-(

2. Must be tough,...killing people who never threatened our safety.
Must be tough,...fulfilling a "mission" that clearly profits a few power-mongering elitists (right-wing RINOs) at the sacrifice of the innocent,...who were given NO choice,...denied the liberty of choosing "life or death".

Must be tough,...to believe,...in bullshit,...

Must be tough.

SUCK IT UP!!!

Don't be a "girlie-man".

Don't be a human being.

BE A CAPITALIST WARRIOR IN SERVITUDE TO YOUR CORPORATE MASTER!!

And,...be happy, enthusiastic and inspiring while you pursue your life without limbs, little money, temporary support, and barely a mark for recognition,...unless, you are "well-connected" to the fascist powers-that-be.

5. So they are defending mercy killing? More or less, this is what
they are saying, correct? It was a mercy death?

Like those people who pull the plug on family members? It's the compassionate response? You don't want to see your loved one suffer or linger in a brain-dead state?

Bear with me...

I'm just trying to grasp the depth of the hypocrisy here.

You know how sometimes an animal must be downed because of critical injuries or illness? Why do I feel as if this is the kind of thinking at play here? That they (Iraqis) were wounded "animals" that needed to be put out of their misery?

I'm appalled. Outraged. Totally brain-boggled.

by this defense...

6. when I read stuff like this, my focus in on the war-criminal-in-chief
the bastard B** should be in prison with Saddam for all the horror and murder and the destruction he has brought to Iraq. Every day we have to suffer with that evil monster in the White House is a black mark in our history. These military will just have to learn to refuse and resist to participate in this monster's war.
